Michael Jackson biopic sequel in the works – but studio boss teases it may not continue where first ended

Okay, so the Michael Jackson biopic was a massive hit, and now a sequel is happening! But here’s the interesting part: a studio executive hinted it won’t necessarily pick up right after the first film’s ending. They’re considering a different approach, which definitely has me intrigued and wondering where they’ll take the story next. It’s a bold move, and I’m eager to see if it pays off.

Despite receiving mostly negative reviews, the movie Michael, which came out last month, has proven to be a big hit with audiences and has earned a lot of money at the box office.

As a huge movie fan, I was thrilled to see this film open so strongly! It made a whopping $97 million domestically and $217 million worldwide during its first weekend. That’s enough to give it the record for the biggest opening weekend ever for a musical biopic – it even beat out ‘Bohemian Rhapsody,’ which previously held that title!

The film tells the story of Michael Jackson’s life and career, from his beginnings with the Jackson 5 to his iconic 1987 Bad tour. It stars Jaafar Jackson, who is Michael’s nephew.

As a huge movie fan, I was a little surprised when the film suddenly ended in 1988. It covered a lot of ground, but it felt incomplete knowing it skipped over twenty whole years of Michael Jackson’s life and career – so much more could have been shown!

The movie ends with a message saying “His Story Continues,” which led many viewers to speculate about a sequel. Now, Adam Fogelson, chairman of Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group, has confirmed that a second film is indeed planned.

During an earnings call, Fogelson shared their enthusiasm for the advancements being made on another Michael movie, as reported by Variety.

Our discussions with everyone involved are continuing to be very positive.

The Lionsgate chair hinted that the new movie will feature a lot of fascinating details about Michael Jackson’s life, and will include many of his most famous songs that weren’t in the first film.

So, the first movie wrapped up in ’88, and it got me thinking – a second film could totally cover the rest of his career! We’re talking the ‘Dangerous’, ‘HIStory’, and ‘Invincible’ albums – all that amazing music and the stories behind it. It’d be a great way to show the evolution of his artistry.

The movie also has the potential to explore Michael Jackson’s Bad album in more detail, featuring hit songs like “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You,” “Man in the Mirror,” “Dirty Diana,” and “The Way You Make Me Feel.” As director John Fogelson hinted, the filmmakers have the freedom to tell the story in a non-linear fashion, moving between different periods of Jackson’s life.

As a movie lover, I’m really hoping the next film tackles the difficult subject of the 1993 allegations and 2005 trial involving Michael Jackson. The first movie got some flak for avoiding those issues, and I think it’s important they’re addressed this time around.
