First Major Vampire: The Masquerade Project Since White Wolf Rebrand Announced (Here’s What We Know)

When Vampire: The Masquerade launched in 1991, it was published by White Wolf Publishing. Over time, White Wolf faded as its games became part of the larger World of Darkness brand. Last year, the company behind Vampire: The Masquerade announced plans to bring back the original White Wolf name. Since then, there haven’t been many major updates about new projects for its popular tabletop role-playing games. But that’s about to change with a significant new Vampire: The Masquerade release – the first under the restored White Wolf name.

The tabletop role-playing game Vampire: The Masquerade has been in its fifth edition, known as V5, since 2018. Although White Wolf hasn’t officially announced it, everything suggests this is the next major version of the game. White Wolf revealed they’re developing a new Vampire: The Masquerade project at the Darkness Emergent LA event. Fans will get a detailed preview at Gen Con 2026, where White Wolf plans to showcase the future of the World of Darkness, with opportunities to playtest the new content.

Vampire: The Masquerade TTRPG Will Get a Major Shakeup With Its Next Release

White Wolf is currently working on the next Vampire: The Masquerade project, marking its first large-scale in-house development since the company’s 2025 refresh. While still early in production, White Wolf shared a preview with fans, suggesting this new project could significantly change the tabletop role-playing game.

Jess Lanzillo, the Creative Director for the project, and other leaders from White Wolf discussed their plans for the future of the horror tabletop role-playing game. They’re focusing on what players have been saying online – on platforms like Discord, Reddit, and Tumblr – about the game’s 5th edition, which launched in 2018. While the 5th edition has had a varied response from dedicated fans, White Wolf is clearly listening to that feedback as they develop the next iteration of the game.

In a recent announcement, White Wolf described their new project as a tribute to the three decades of vampire-themed games they’ve created. The team aims to seamlessly blend the game’s story with its rules, recognizing how gameplay mechanics influence storytelling. They’re prioritizing player freedom, teamwork, and a personalized experience, all while respecting the overall story of the franchise. Importantly, the project will focus on original artwork created by humans, which is a welcome approach in 2026.

It sounds like White Wolf is preparing a new version of its tabletop role-playing game, or at least a significant update, similar to the changes coming to Dungeons & Dragons’ 5th Edition in 2024. However, White Wolf hasn’t officially announced the name or details yet. We’ll likely find out more at Gen Con, a gaming convention happening July 30th to August 2nd in Indianapolis, Indiana. There, White Wolf plans to reveal the next step for its horror RPG, and fans will get a chance to try out the new content and watch a live play session using those materials.
