Netflix’s popular historical drama has become a huge hit and will return for two more seasons. While the streaming service’s list of all-time most popular shows is mostly filled with original sci-fi, fantasy, and crime series like Wednesday, Stranger Things, and Adolescence, this drama stands out as one of Netflix’s most successful adaptations of a book. Both the first and third seasons have each been viewed over 100 million times since they were released.

Netflix’s hit show Bridgerton, a period drama set in Regency-era England, has become a global sensation. Created with Shonda Rhimes, the show’s success comes from its passionate love stories, diverse cast, and lavish costumes and settings. Adapted from the novels by Julia Quinn, each season focuses on the romance of a different Bridgerton sibling, featuring familiar romantic themes and complex social interactions. The focus is currently on Eloise, the last of the older Bridgerton siblings to have her story told, as her younger siblings, George and Hyacinth, also have romantic arcs in the original book series. These younger characters have aged considerably since the first season – George is now at Eton College and Hyacinth is preparing to enter society – and will be ready for their own love stories by the time Netflix considers seasons 7 and 8.

With Bridgerton remaining incredibly popular, Netflix and Shondaland have several options for future stories. They could adapt the Rokesby series, a four-book prequel that explores the lives of the Bridgerton family’s neighbors. However, if they’re looking to create another prequel like Queen Charlotte, the story of Violet Bridgerton and her late husband, Edmund, would be a natural fit. Their passionate romance set the example for their children’s own search for love. For the time being, Bridgerton has plenty of material to stay one of Netflix’s biggest hits.
