A popular character from Peaky Blinders will appear in the new series following the next generation of the gang. This is exciting news for fans who didn’t get to see much of him in the recent movie, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man. The original TV show aired for six seasons on the BBC before concluding in 2022. The story continued with a 2026 film, bringing back Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby, who had been living a solitary life after his brother Arthur’s death. The movie surprisingly ends with Tommy’s death, and his oldest son, Duke (played by Barry Keoghan in the film and Jamie Bell in the new series), steps up as the new leader of the Peaky Blinders, guiding them into the future.
A key character, Charles Shelby, didn’t appear until a brief scene at Tommy’s funeral, played by Alfie Thomas Bland. However, he’ll have a much larger role in the next installment of the Peaky Blinders series. Actor Charlie Heaton will play Charles, who is Duke’s half-brother and Tommy’s youngest son. The character, who was first introduced in Season 3 as Tommy and Grace’s son, has cut off all contact with his family and their criminal lifestyle.
Who Is Charles Shelby on Peaky Blinders?

In Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, the story centers on Duke, Tommy’s son, who becomes the new leader of the Peaky Blinders after his father passes away. Another son, Charles, remained largely unseen until a brief appearance at Tommy’s funeral. Charles is the son of Tommy and his first wife, Grace. Grace initially worked undercover for the Birmingham police to investigate Tommy, but they fell in love and had a son, Charles, in Season 3. Tragically, Grace was killed in an attempt on Tommy’s life shortly after Charles was born, leaving their son to be raised by his father.
Charles had a strained relationship with his father, ultimately being raised by Tommy’s second wife, Lizzie. After his sister Ruby’s death, Charles moved in with Lizzie, which Tommy permitted, believing she could provide a better upbringing. Charles wasn’t a major part of the Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man story because he was serving in World War II in North Africa. His Aunt Ada revealed in the film that he hadn’t spoken to his father in years. After the war, Charles chose to completely separate from the Peaky Blinder family and pursue a quiet, ordinary life.
Okay, so the new Peaky Blinders series is gearing up, and the central question seems to be whether anyone can truly outrun their family history. If it’s anything like the original, expect plenty of intense family drama and characters reluctantly drawn back into the fold. The casting of Charlie Heaton – fresh off his success as Jonathan Byers in Stranger Things – definitely suggests his character will find himself tangled up in a business he’d rather avoid. Good news for fans: the BBC and Netflix have already greenlit two seasons, so we’re in for a good ride!
