Following the exciting news that a beloved animated series is returning after a long hiatus, Disney+ is hinting at even more classic shows from the 1990s and 2000s making a comeback. Disney is embracing nostalgia this summer with a special event showcasing popular shows from a favorite era of Disney Channel. As part of “Disney+ Hulu Throwbacks,” a highly anticipated series will soon be available for streaming.
After 22 years, fans can finally stream the beloved show The Weekenders! Disney+ announced it will be available this summer as part of its ‘Throwbacks’ event, bringing back classic shows and movies. The platform hinted at even more nostalgic content coming soon, promising a ‘Mini Mall’ of ’90s and 2000s favorites from its archives.
The Weekenders Confirms Disney+ Release Date
The initial group of beloved movies and shows from the 1990s and 2000s now available on Disney+ proves that:
- 5/25 – The Weekenders (Seasons 1-2)
- 5/25 – The Brave Little Toaster
- August – Camp Rock 3
This announcement is also leading to a mall tour starting in Los Angeles this June, along with new podcasts and streaming content on Disney+. However, the most exciting part is the possibility of finally seeing more long-awaited shows and movies that haven’t yet been added to the platform, even though they originally aired or were released decades ago. The Weekenders is a prime example of a show fans are eager to revisit.
Many beloved Disney animated shows from the 1990s and 2000s, like Buzz Lightyear of Star Command and Dave the Barbarian, haven’t been released on streaming yet. This also includes TV spin-offs of popular movies such as Aladdin and Tarzan. Adding these shows to Disney+ would make the streaming service even more appealing to fans.
Which Disney Show Really Needs a Comeback?

We’re currently seeing a lot of beloved shows and movies make comebacks, and many more are in the works. Some, like The Weekenders, would be great to have available on streaming, similar to House of Mouse. That show has been missing from Disney’s offerings for twenty years, meaning a whole generation of Disney fans doesn’t even know it exists! And that’s not even considering all the Disney Channel Original Movies that haven’t made their way to streaming services yet.
Disney is now making its classic movies widely available again through streaming, giving fans a chance to watch them anytime after a long wait. This renewed access is also likely to pave the way for successful remakes and revivals in the future.
