Forgotten 6-Part Procedural Spinoff Is Officially Heading to Free Streaming

As May comes to a close, we’re getting a look at what new shows and movies will be available next month. Pluto TV is adding a complete, older police drama spinoff series in June, and it will be available to stream for free.

Pluto TV is adding all six seasons of the crime drama Major Crimes starting June 1st, according to Us Weekly. The show, which originally ran on TNT from 2012 to 2017 and has a total of 105 episodes, is a spin-off of The Closer. Major Crimes continues the story right after the original series ends, but with a new leader. While Kyra Sedgwick didn’t return as Brenda Leigh Johnson, many other familiar faces from The Closer did appear in Major Crimes.

Major Crimes Picks Up Where The Closer Leaves Off

Following the end of The Closer, Major Crimes begins with Sharon Raydor, played by Mary McDonnell, stepping in as the new head of the LAPD’s Major Crimes Division. The show also features returning cast members G.W. Bailey as Louie Provenza, Tony Denison as Andy Flynn, Michael Paul Chan as Mike Tao, Phillip P. Keene as Buzz Watson, Robert Gossett as Russell Taylor, Jon Tenney as Fritz Howard, and Jonathan Del Arco as Dr. Morales.

The show also introduced new characters and storylines. Graham Patrick Martin joined the cast as Rusty Beck, a homeless teen who unexpectedly becomes a significant part of Sharon’s life. Kearran Giovanni played Detective Amy Sykes, and Nadine Velazquez appeared as Deputy District Attorney Emma Rios, both new to the series.

Both Major Crimes and its original series center on the LAPD’s elite Major Crimes Division, which handles the most serious investigations, like high-profile murders. However, the shows differed in their approach to solving cases. The original series emphasized getting confessions through intense questioning, led by Brenda Leigh Johnson. Major Crimes, with Sharon Raydor in charge, focused more on securing plea bargains and working with suspects rather than confronting them. Major Crimes also featured more ongoing storylines that developed over multiple episodes.

Six Seasons Wasn’t Long Enough for Fans

Many viewers felt the show was cancelled prematurely, a sentiment shared by those who made it. James Duff, the series creator, publicly stated in 2017 – after the announcement of its sixth and final season – that the decision to end Major Crimes wasn’t his and that he would have preferred to continue the show.

We – the cast, writers, producers, and crew – were determined to keep the show going as long as people were still watching, he explained. He emphasized that without the support of its viewers, Major Crimes would have ended much earlier.

Major Crimes will start streaming on Pluto TV on June 1, 2026.
