Let Out of PS3 Jail, Here’s an Hour of Metal Gear Solid 4’s New PS5 Version

The acclaimed stealth game Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is finally leaving the PlayStation 3 and coming to modern consoles! Players will be able to experience it on the PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X|S starting this August. Over an hour of gameplay footage has just been released, giving fans a first look at the updated version.

If you fast-forward past the introduction, the video shows the beginning of Metal Gear Solid 4 being played on a PlayStation 5.

This isn’t a full-scale remaster or remake, but rather a way to bring the game to modern systems with improved resolution and smoother performance. The recent video showcases the subtle changes and enhancements made, as well as what remains unchanged.

Players have been carefully examining the game’s files for changes, and it’s confirmed the iPod remains a featured item. The mysterious “No Place for Hideo” box is still present, and the game’s main menu and save/load functions have received updates.

Besides that, this is Metal Gear Solid 4 running on modern hardware. That’s all I need.

The beloved PS3 game is now available on PS5 as part of Master Collection Vol. 2, alongside Peace Walker and bonus content. This collection includes everything from the original Assassin’s Creed game, but doesn’t feature the Metal Gear Online component. However, the cooperative modes found in Peace Walker are included.

Because Guns of the Patriots isn’t easy to find, it’s the Metal Gear Solid game I’ve played the fewest times – and I suspect many other fans feel the same way. I’m very familiar with the first three games, so I’m excited to revisit MGS4 starting August 27th, 2026.
