Rebekah Vardy explains her brand-new fly-on-the-wall TV series: “We had something new to talk about”

The old saying that any publicity is good publicity might not always be true, as some people have experienced negative consequences from media attention. However, Rebekah Vardy, famous for her involvement in the 2022 “Wagatha Christie” court case, seems to be thriving despite it all.

It makes you wonder, what’s more challenging for someone used to being in the public eye: the constant attention from the British press, or being largely unknown while living in Milan? And how does a public figure maintain their popularity and influence when they’re living and working abroad?

The answer, likely to both questions, is The Vardys, a reality TV show. It features Jamie Vardy’s highs and lows as a footballer, and the typical stress of a family trying to find a new home before the season starts. Similar shows include The Real Beckhams (documenting their move to Madrid in 2003), or, for something even more extravagant, I Am Georgina (following Cristiano Ronaldo’s fiancée in Riyadh, 2023). Compared to these shows, Rebekah and Jamie Vardy seem surprisingly relatable and grounded.

Jamie Vardy visited our offices last week to chat about the show, and I was surprised to find she was really cheerful and friendly. She joked about the British press labeling her as having a ‘resting b*tch face,’ but she seemed genuinely happy and settled into her new life abroad – a peaceful break after a lot of drama, which she described as a chance to ‘rest and reset.’ When talking about the show’s concept, she simply said, ‘We had something new to talk about.’

Despite the focus on Jamie Vardy’s football talent and inspiring life story, the series highlights three grounding aspects of the Vardys’ life. They have a strong family with four children, whose school schedules are just as important as Jamie’s games. They also value longtime friendships, particularly the support of Jamie’s friends from Sheffield. And, in a world often filled with troubled celebrity marriages, Jamie and Rebekah have a remarkably solid relationship that has clearly been tested and proven resilient.

Despite the seemingly normal life, Rebekah Vardy earns around £30,000 a week, travels by private jet, and knows her situation could change quickly if her performance dips. It’s a high-pressure life, but she handles it with courage and good humor. How does she manage to stay positive while facing hostile chants from opposing fans – including insults about her husband, Jamie – at football games?

She explains that she understands why she’s in those difficult situations – she’s there to support her husband. She views it as a sign of strength, acknowledging that everyone faces criticism and it’s important to accept both the positive and negative aspects of life.

Amid all the money and mayhem, something, then, we can all relate to.
