Russell T Davies has said he’d like Matt Bomer to star in an American adaptation of his new British series, Tip Toe.
Channel 4’s new series is a gripping thriller set in the suburbs of Manchester. It focuses on a growing conflict between two neighbors and examines the damaging issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community today.
I’m so excited about this new show! Alan Cumming, who I loved in The Traitors US, and David Morrissey, famous from The Walking Dead, are the leads. Alan plays Leo, a bar owner, and David is Clive, an electrician. They start out as friendly neighbors, but things quickly turn dangerous as their disagreements escalate – apparently, words really do become weapons and their views become increasingly extreme. It sounds intense!
I was so excited to hear Russell T Davies mention Matt Bomer as a potential lead for the American version of the show! Apparently, Matt’s been wanting to collaborate with Davies for a while now, which is fantastic. It sounds like they’d make a great team, and I’m really hoping it happens.
He added that he’d happily sell his ‘American Tip Toe’ idea for just 10 pence if someone else wanted it. He believes this process of radicalization is happening globally, affecting many different minority groups, and is actually accelerating.

Matt Bomer has a history of appearing in LGBTQ+ roles, most recently in the 2023 series Fellow Travelers, where he starred with Jonathan Bailey in a love story set during the McCarthy era.
He’s also well-known for playing Donald in the 2020 Netflix movie The Boys in the Band and Larry Trainor in the DC series Doom Patrol.
The UK version of Tip Toe stars Morrissey and Cumming, alongside Pooky Quesnel (known for Moonflower Murders) as Marie, Clive’s wife, and Jackson Connor (Masters of the Air) and Joseph Evans (The Map That Leads To You) as their sons, George and Saul.
The show also features Elizabeth Berrington, known for her role in ‘Frauds’; Iz Hesketh from ‘Renegade Nell’; Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo, who appeared in ‘Wednesday’; Paul Rhys (‘Saltburn’); Charlie Condou (‘Doctor Who’); Denise Welch (‘Waterloo Road’); and stage performer Shakeel Kimotho.
Tip Toe launches on Channel 4 and Channel 4 On Demand on Sunday 31 May 2026.
