More familiar faces from The Big Bang Theory are joining the cast of its new spin-off, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe. Another original cast member has now been confirmed to appear in the series.
We previously announced that Kevin Sussman (as Stuart Bloom), Lauren Lapkus (as Denise), Brian Posehn (as Bert), and John Ross Bowie (as Barry Kripke) would star in the show. Now, we’ve learned that Wil Wheaton will also be returning, likely playing himself.
Wheaton was on ‘The Big Bang Theory’ for 17 episodes, portraying a humorous version of himself. He started as a one-time guest and later became a regular character.
Okay, so I just saw a new HBO Max teaser for their 2026 lineup, and I’m super excited – Wil Wheaton is going to be in ‘Stuart Fails to Save the Universe’! There was a quick shot of him, and it looked like he was doing something with magic, which is awesome. I can’t wait to see what that’s all about.

In “Stuart Fails to Save the Universe,” comic book shop owner Stuart Bloom (played by Sussman) accidentally destroys a device created by Sheldon and Leonard, which unleashes a multiversal catastrophe that he must then fix.
I’m so glad Stuart isn’t going at it alone! He’s got his girlfriend Denise helping him out, which is awesome. Plus, his friend Bert, who’s a geologist, is along for the ride, and even Barry Kripke, that brilliant but seriously annoying quantum physicist, is involved. It’s quite the team!

During their journey, the group encounters different versions of familiar characters from The Big Bang Theory. And, as the title suggests, it doesn’t end happily.

The show’s concept of alternate realities could also apply to the main characters – actors like Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons, and Kaley Cuoco – and explore different versions of them.
