One Day and The White Lotus favourite breaks silence on “dream” role in new Lord of the Rings film

Leo Woodall has shared his excitement about landing a significant role in the new Lord of the Rings film, calling it a dream come true from his childhood to be involved with the beloved series.

The actor, 29, gained recognition for his performance in season two of The White Lotus and will now join the cast of Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, alongside other well-known actors, in a new adventure set in Middle-earth.

Woodall, who was revealed in April to be playing the new character Halvard – someone not featured in J.R.R. Tolkien’s books – hasn’t shared much about what fans can expect.

In a recent interview with TopMob, he revealed how much joining the fantasy series means to him.

“I can’t believe it. I can’t believe I’m lucky enough,” he told us.

Growing up, I always dreamed of being part of that world, and to actually get to do it alongside Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis, and Elijah Wood… it’s incredibly fulfilling. I’m absolutely thrilled to be involved.

The new Lord of the Rings film, titled The Hunt for Gollum, is planned for release in theaters on December 17, 2027. The story will take place between the films The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring.

The story centers on Aragorn’s mission to find Gollum, a creature twisted by the One Ring, and prevent him from revealing the Ring’s hiding place to the dark lord Sauron.

It’s based on notes left behind by Tolkien, opposed to a full release.

Joining the cast alongside Woodall are Jamie Dornan as Strider – the character also known as Aragorn, famously played by Viggo Mortensen – and Kate Winslet, who will portray Marigol, a brand new character created for the series.

The movie brings back several fan favorites from the series, with Andy Serkis reprising his role as Gollum, alongside Elijah Wood as Frodo and Ian McKellen as Gandalf.

Ambika Mod, recently known for her roles in Netflix’s One Day, Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy, and the thriller Vladimir alongside Rachel Weisz, is now appearing in the new film, Tuner.

He plays Niki White in the film, a piano tuner learning the trade who has a sensitive hearing condition called hyperacusis. He unexpectedly finds that his unique abilities also make him a natural at opening safes.

When Niki’s mentor gets sick and faces mounting medical expenses, Niki uses his talents and gets drawn into a life of crime.

The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is expected in cinemas in December 2027.
