
I was so excited to hear last month that some incredible comedy writers were joining the next Paddington film, and now it’s official – the amazing Armando Iannucci, who’s won both Emmy and BAFTA awards, is writing the script! It’s going to be brilliant.
The writer behind popular shows like The Thick of It and Veep—recently a contestant on Taskmaster—is teaming up with his frequent collaborator, Simon Blackwell, to write the next Paddington movie.
Variety reports that Dougal Wilson will direct the next Paddington movie, “Paddington in Peru.” He previously took over directing from Paul King for this third film.
Stephen King wrote the first two films in the series, co-writing the second with Simon Farnaby, who also appears in Ghosts. After that, Mark Burton, Jon Foster, and James Lamont took over writing the scripts for the third movie.

StudioCanal announced at CinemaCon last month that they were starting work on a fourth film. CEO Anna Marsh hinted at the new movie, but didn’t reveal any details about the story.
Even before the movie Paddington in Peru came out, producer David Marsh hinted at a fourth Paddington film. In a 2024 interview with Deadline, he said they were already considering future installments.
The three movies adapted from Michael Bond’s beloved children’s books have all been successful with both critics and audiences. The second film, in particular, has received especially enthusiastic reviews.
A new musical playing in London’s West End has become a big hit, recently winning seven Olivier Awards.

Besides his well-known work on shows like The Thick of It and Veep, Iannucci has a long list of writing credits, including The Day Today, I’m Alan Partridge, and his more recent series, Avenue 5.
He’s known for writing and directing films like In The Loop, The Death of Stalin, and The Personal History of David Copperfield. He even received an Oscar nomination for his screenplay adaptation of In The Loop.
