EA Games Just Quietly Delisted A 15-Year-Old Classic

It’s always frustrating when a favorite game disappears from online stores. It’s even worse when it happens suddenly, leaving fans no chance to buy it before it’s gone for good. That’s what just happened to the popular The Sims Medieval, a spin-off game released in 2011. After being removed from Steam years ago, it’s now also disappeared from the EA website, meaning it’s no longer available to purchase.

Released in 2011, The Sims Medieval was a unique spin-off of the popular life simulation game, The Sims. It came during a time when EA frequently experimented with new ideas alongside its main game releases. Despite some imperfections, The Sims Medieval was a genuinely enjoyable game, and many consider it the best spin-off the series has ever produced. However, it’s currently unavailable for purchase, even though its store page is still online, and the reason for this remains unknown.

The Sad Story of The Sims Medieval Just Got Even More Tragic

Unlike the main Sims games, The Sims Medieval wasn’t very successful and didn’t last long. It only received one expansion pack after its release in 2011 – the ‘Pirates and Nobles’ adventure – and EA stopped supporting it shortly after that in late 2011. The game also stopped receiving updates and patches, leaving it unchanged not long after it came out. Many fans really enjoyed The Sims Medieval, so it’s unfortunate that it wasn’t further developed.

The Sims Medieval was taken off Steam in 2016, shortly after its release. It remained available through the EA app for several years, but Sims Community recently discovered it’s no longer for sale there either. This likely marks the complete removal of the game, which was a well-regarded medieval take on The Sims. EA Games hasn’t publicly explained why the game is no longer available.

Considering how old the game is and the fact that it hasn’t been updated, EA likely stopped selling it because it’s difficult to get running on today’s computers. The timing is notable, though, since The Sims 4 just released a new expansion pack focused on royalty and family legacies. Many players thought this expansion borrowed heavily from The Sims Medieval but didn’t quite capture the same magic due to being set in the modern world of The Sims 4. It’s possible EA didn’t want the older, unsupported game to compete with their new expansion pack.

Some fans think the recent removal of The Sims Medieval from stores might actually be a sign that EA is planning a complete remake of the game. While there’s no proof of this yet, EA is currently working on new The Sims projects, so it’s possible we could see a return to spin-off titles like this one. Fingers crossed!

Currently, The Sims Medieval is no longer available for purchase on the EA website. It’s also been removed from Steam and Epic Games, meaning there’s no digital way to buy the game. If you already own it, you can still play, but new players won’t be able to add it to their collection unless they find a physical copy.
