The Fantastic Four are widely considered the foundation of the modern Marvel Universe. As Marvel’s flagship team during the Silver Age, Mister Fantastic, the Thing, Invisible Woman, and the Human Torch quickly became iconic heroes. But the team’s history goes beyond the original family. Over time, many different heroes have joined the Fantastic Four, sometimes replacing existing members. In fact, there have even been two completely separate versions of the team with entirely new lineups. While the original Fantastic Four are well-known, some of the later members arguably possess even greater power.
While Reed, Sue, Johnny, and Ben are strong, other members of the Fantastic Four have also been incredibly powerful heroes. They’ve proven themselves worthy of the team’s legacy, consistently saving the day no matter who was on the roster. Though not as famous for their time with the Fantastic Four, these heroes were capable of facing the universe’s greatest dangers while wearing the iconic “4”.
10) Ant-Man II

Hank Pym was the first Ant-Man, but he later changed his superhero identity, becoming Giant-Man, Goliath, and Yellowjacket at different times. Eventually, Scott Lang took on the Ant-Man role, becoming a friend to the Avengers and even working with the Fantastic Four. He later joined a second team associated with the Fantastic Four in the comic series FF. While not the strongest hero, Scott Lang could shrink down to insect size and communicate with ants, and he often used his size-changing abilities cleverly to help when it mattered most.
9) Black Panther

Most people know Black Panther as the king of Wakanda and for his involvement with the Avengers and the Illuminati. But his story actually began with an encounter with the Fantastic Four, and he has a long-standing connection to that team. During Civil War, a disagreement split Reed and Sue Richards apart, and they decided to take a break from superhero work. Reed asked Black Panther and Storm, who had recently gotten married, to temporarily fill their roles. While Black Panther wasn’t the most powerful member, he excelled at strategy and quickly became the team’s primary thinker – a role he was perfectly suited for.
8) Wolverine

When the Fantastic Four went missing, Spider-Man, Hulk, Ghost Rider, and Wolverine formed a new team to protect the world. Wolverine, however, was going through a rough patch – many non-mutant heroes didn’t trust him, and the team struggled with disagreements from the start. While incredibly durable and a skilled fighter, Wolverine was the least powerful member of this new group. He could withstand almost any attack and slice through anything, but compared to the Hulk, Ghost Rider, and Spider-Man, he was significantly outmatched – like a small force alongside incredibly powerful weapons.
7) Medusa

Medusa is now the queen of the Inhumans, but she didn’t start out as royalty. She began her career as a villain, joining forces with the Frightful Four – a group including the Wizard, Sandman, and Paste-Pot Pete. Her life changed when she married Black Bolt, and she became an ally to the Fantastic Four, fighting alongside them and her fellow Inhumans on multiple occasions. She even officially joined the Fantastic Four’s team, known as FF, where she used her ability to control her hair as a weapon against their foes. While controlling hair might not seem like a powerful ability, Medusa has mastered it and uses it effectively.
6) She-Thing

Sharon Ventura initially connected with the Fantastic Four through her relationship with the Thing. She later gained superpowers, becoming Ms. Marvel II, and eventually transformed into the She-Thing, joining the team after the Thing’s own powers changed. She even became a member of the second volume of the FF, though she temporarily lost her abilities and had to use a special suit to regain her strength. While not as powerful as the Thing, she was still one of the team’s strongest members while wearing it.
5) Spider-Man

Spider-Man stands out as one of Marvel’s most down-to-earth heroes, particularly because of his financial struggles. Peter Parker is often short on cash, and when he first started out as a superhero, he even applied for a job with the Fantastic Four! While they didn’t hire him, he occasionally joined them on adventures. He later became a part-time member alongside heroes like the Hulk, Wolverine, and Ghost Rider, and eventually joined the Future Foundation after a tragic loss. Although Spider-Man’s powers aren’t the strongest, his determination allows him to consistently overcome challenges and defeat more powerful opponents.
4) She-Hulk

As a long-time comic fan, I always loved She-Hulk’s run with the Fantastic Four. It started back in the early ’80s, stepping in for the Thing after that big Secret Wars event. She wasn’t a full-time member, more of a reserve, but her time with them definitely helped her get noticed by the Avengers. Later on, she even rejoined them in the second volume of FF, and honestly, she was the powerhouse of that team! She’s got the same incredible strength as her cousin, the Hulk, but she’s much better at managing her temper, meaning she builds to full strength more gradually. Honestly, she could handle anything the Fantastic Four ever threw at her with ease.
3) Storm

Storm is a legendary X-Man, but being on the team demanded all of her attention. After marrying Black Panther, she stepped back from the X-Men and joined the Fantastic Four alongside her husband. Following the pattern of powerful women married to the Fantastic Four’s smartest member, Storm quickly became the team’s most powerful asset. Her weather manipulation abilities extend to control over electromagnetism, and she also possesses magical talents. She’s consistently been incredibly powerful, making her a natural fit to replace Invisible Woman.
2) Ghost Rider

It might seem surprising, but Ghost Rider actually became a member of the Fantastic Four alongside heroes like Hulk, Spider-Man, and Wolverine. At the time, Danny Ketch was bonded with the Spirit of Vengeance, using its power to fight evil. Stan Lee believed Ghost Rider was incredibly powerful within the Marvel Universe, and that’s easy to see why. Fueled by the demonic power of Zarathos, Ghost Rider possesses immense strength and is nearly invulnerable to anything except strong magic. Combined with his mystical chain, ability to control hellfire, and the terrifying Penance Stare, he was a truly formidable member of the team.
1) Hulk

As a longtime fan, I’ve always been amazed by the Hulk. He’s just the strongest there is, plain and simple, and he’s had some really interesting connections with the Fantastic Four over the years. I remember all his battles with the Thing – they really beat each other up, but you could tell they eventually earned a weird respect for each other. And it’s cool how he and Reed Richards moved in the same science circles sometimes. He even joined the Fantastic Four twice as a member! It was awesome seeing his incredible power help the team fight their enemies. Honestly, the Hulk is unbelievably powerful – probably the most powerful human being who’s ever lived, and definitely the strongest member the Fantastic Four have ever had.
