Marshals season 1 finale tribute explained as Yellowstone spin-off shares dedication to Lenny Hancock

The first season of the Yellowstone spin-off, Lawmen: Bass Reeves (formerly Marshals), concluded with a touching dedication to a valued member of the production crew who recently passed away.

Leonard E. Hancock Jr., affectionately called Lenny, was the props master for the show and sadly passed away in December at the age of 54.

After Sunday’s season finale of the show – centered around the character Kayce Dutton, played by Luke Grimes – a tribute to Jeff Hancock appeared on the screen.

Before his passing, Hancock was still involved with the film Marshals, and he even shared photos from the set on Instagram.

A photo from October revealed his designated parking space, marked with the U.S. Marshals Service logo. He captioned it, sharing that Park City, Utah, had been his home for the past five months and expressing his gratitude, noting he only had two months left.

I plan to return in the spring, and I hope you’ll all tune in to watch ‘Y Marshals’ when it premieres on CBS in early 2025!

Before joining the team behind Marshals, Hancock worked as a props master on the action series SEAL Team for an impressive 107 episodes, from 2017 to 2024.

From 2005 to 2013, he worked as props master on CSI: NY. He later held the same role on CSI: Cyber (2015-2016) and the 2017 reboot of the TV series Get Shorty.

According to Arizona Family and People magazine, Hank Hancock died on December 23, 2025, after losing control of the UTV he was driving and being thrown from the vehicle.

He is survived by his 17-year-old son, Aidan Hancock, who is an aspiring motorcycle racer.

In the wake of his death, a GoFundMe set up by loved ones raised $10,000 for a memorial to him.

It’s been absolutely devastating losing Lenny. He had such a wonderful way of connecting with people, and the incredible stories and love everyone is sharing really show what a special person he was. It’s just a testament to the impact he had on all of us.

“He showed up fully for his work, for his friends, and for the community we share.”

Aidan started a GoFundMe campaign to support his racing goals, hoping to compete in South America and represent both Arizona and his country.

He shared that earlier this year, his father passed away. His father was his greatest champion and the reason he started racing.

Losing him has been incredibly difficult, but it’s made me even more determined to achieve the goals we shared and to carry on his memory through everything I do, both in racing and in life.

Marshals has already been confirmed for season 2, with filming set to begin soon.

Marshals is available to stream in full now on Paramount+.
