I’m seriously impressed with what Netflix has been doing with anime! They’ve really become a major player, even though anime isn’t all they offer. With so many subscribers – we’re talking hundreds of millions – it was almost inevitable they’d surpass Crunchyroll, which currently has over 21 million. And the exclusives they’ve been bringing in are fantastic! We’ve already gotten things like Devil May Cry, Baki-Dou: The Invincible Samurai, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run, and Dandelion, and now there’s another big one coming this August! The Ribbon Hero isn’t just another new anime series for Netflix; it’s actually a tribute to a beloved classic, which is super cool!
If you haven’t heard, the new anime series The Ribbon Hero will be available on streaming services starting August 8th. It tells the story of a princess who lost her kingdom and now fights to protect a new one. The show is based on Princess Knight, a manga series that originally came out in 1958. It’s been over 25 years since the main character last appeared in anime, and The Ribbon Hero aims to bring her story back to life. You can watch a new trailer below.
The Ribbon Hero’s Arrival
The new film follows Sapphire, a princess whose kingdom, Silverland, was destroyed by a disaster called Nergal. Now wandering and heartbroken, she finds refuge in Goldland and begins to feel hopeful thanks to the kindness of its people. But her peace is shattered when Nergal reappears, threatening Goldland as well. Determined to protect her new home and prevent further loss – vowing to never lose anything or allow others to suffer again – Sapphire takes up her sword and prepares to fight for her fate. It’s a story about a solitary hero who refuses to accept despair.
The upcoming summer anime film is being produced by Twin Engine, a studio well-known to anime fans for its work on popular titles like Psycho-Pass, Vinland Saga, Hell’s Paradise, Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead, and recently, Witch Hat Atelier. Although it officially premieres in August, the film will have a preview screening at the Annecy International Film Festival next month. The film is also directed by Yuki Igarashi, who has contributed to notable anime such as Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, Star Wars: Visions, and Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!
