Ella Bright Addresses Age Gap With Off Campus Costar Belmont Cameli

Ella Bright insists Off Campus critics are off base.

The 19-year-old actress, who stars as Hannah Wells in the TV series based on Elle Kennedy’s hockey romance novels, recently responded to comments about the age difference between her and her co-star, Belmont Cameli, who plays her love interest.

Ella explained to Amanda Hirsch on the May 26th episode of the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast that she felt prepared for the role from the start. She immediately connected with the character of Hannah and loved the scripts, making her decision to take the job easy. She said, ‘There was never a question that I wouldn’t want to do this.’

Ella understands why people are curious about her work with the actor who plays Garrett Graham on the show.

I understand why people might be concerned about the age difference, but I never felt excluded because I was younger than the others. Everyone on set felt like family, and I couldn’t have felt more comfortable working with them.

“So, it is funny when they say that. I’m like, ‘I’m good,’” she added. “I’m completely good.”

Ella says the show’s creator, Louisa Levy, was upfront about what she needed from her, and also from her co-star, Mika Abdalla (who plays Allie), once filming started.

Ella explained that the scene felt different for each character. For Hannah, it was like revealing something personal gradually, while Allie approached it with complete confidence and openness, reflecting how central sexuality is to her personality. It really highlighted the contrast between the two characters.

As she emphasized, “Everyone had full understanding of what we were going into.”

Honestly, all the chatter doesn’t bother me in the slightest. As I always say, it is the internet, after all! You learn to roll with it, you know?

Louisa agreed with Ella, emphasizing the need for openness about her position, particularly because she had just turned eighteen when filming sensitive scenes for the first season of the show.

According to an interview with Variety published on May 16th, the person involved spoke with Ella before finalizing the agreement. They confirmed Ella was aware of what to expect, explaining that while she had already read the source material, they went over everything to ensure she felt prepared and secure.

Louisa explained that she would have stopped filming any intimate scenes if she’d had concerns about the actors’ readiness. However, both actors were enthusiastic, and they benefited from the guidance of their intimacy coordinator, Kathy Kadler, who spoke with everyone involved in those scenes – not just Belmont and Ella – to ensure everyone felt comfortable.

As a longtime fan, what always struck me about this project was how much care went into making sure everyone felt safe and respected. They genuinely prioritized comfort levels – figuring out what worked for each person and, crucially, what didn’t – before anything was filmed. It wasn’t just talk, either; they wouldn’t move forward with a single shot if anyone had reservations. It created such a positive atmosphere, and you could really feel that on screen.

However, Off Campus isn’t the only new show getting attention. Keep reading to discover more exciting series that are on their way!
