I remember when Pokémon cards first came out in English back in 1999! Pokémon was already getting huge over in Japan and everywhere else, but honestly, nobody really predicted the cards would become this collectible. That means finding a complete set of the very first 102 cards is super rare now, especially if they’re in perfect condition and professionally graded. But get this – a full set just went up for sale, and it’s not costing as much as I thought it would… at least, not yet!
Perfectly graded Pokémon card collections are incredibly rare. Last year, a top-condition set sold for over $900,000! There are only nine collections in the world with the highest grade, so they rarely become available. Now, a nearly perfect 1st edition set – all 102 cards graded PSA 9 Mint – is up for auction. This well-preserved collection represents a piece of Pokémon history and is available through Goldin’s Spring Pop Culture Auction until June 17th.
Complete PSA 9 1st Edition Pokemon TCG Base Set Up for Auction for a Limited Time

As a collector, I’ve noticed it’s pretty easy to see what individual Pokemon cards are selling for – sites like PriceCharting are great for that. But keeping track of complete, graded sets is trickier. We often hear about PSA 10 sets going for crazy money, but it’s harder to figure out what people will pay for a nearly perfect set, like a PSA 9. This original Base Set is seriously one of the most sought-after collections, because it was the very first Pokemon TCG release here in the West! And a 1st edition set is especially rare, because Pokemon cards became so popular that the Base Set got reprinted a lot over the years.
This complete set of original Pokemon cards is expected to be a valuable addition to any collection. The auction started on May 22nd and has already reached $52,000 with just four bids – a significant increase from the initial $25,000. With 22 days remaining, the price is likely to climb even higher before the auction ends.
Honestly, the current price on this lot is a steal when you break down the value of each card. The big one, a 1st Edition Charizard, can sell for around $48,100 in a PSA 9 condition – seriously! But it’s not just about the Charizard. Cards like Blastoise and Venusaur are still super valuable and highly sought after. So, the whole set is worth a pretty penny to a collector. Plus, for a lot of us, the real appeal is having the complete set, which adds even more value. It’s a dream collection!

As a huge Pokémon fan, seeing a complete set of the original 102 cards is seriously amazing! It’s probably way too expensive for most of us who just collect casually, but it’s still fascinating to watch the auctions and see how much they end up selling for. It definitely makes you wonder about that old binder you have tucked away, doesn’t it? I’m always checking mine to see if I have anything valuable – you never know what those childhood cards might be worth!
A complete first-edition set of Pokemon trading cards is up for auction at Goldin’s Spring Pop Culture event in 2026. Along with these cards, you’ll find other Pokemon items and classic, hard-to-find Nintendo games. The auction is open until June 17th, giving you time to look through everything and imagine adding to your collection.
