As the football World Cup nears, EA has announced a big update for both EA Sports FC 26 and EA Sports FC Mobile. Called “The World’s Game,” the update will be available on May 28th and includes a 28-team international tournament starting June 4th, according to IGN.
Even though EA no longer has the official FIFA World Cup license, the game update will still feature 53 playable national teams with full licensing, and 41 of those teams are actually competing in the real-world World Cup. Some of the included teams are Brazil, Cabo Verde, Uzbekistan, Belgium, Austria, France, and England. A complete list of licensed teams is available below.
I’m really excited about the latest update! They’ve added Egypt and Japan, and it’s awesome they’ve included real players for those teams. There are also five other national teams – Algeria, Curaçao, Iran, Iraq, and Jordan – but they’re generic. Apparently, it all comes down to what licenses EA could get. It’s a bit complicated, because things like US sanctions against certain countries also affect which teams they can include, which is a bummer, but understandable.
The company stated that whether or not a national team can participate depends on us getting the necessary permissions and following all relevant laws, including U.S. sanctions. These sanctions might prevent us from working with some international sports organizations.
The tournament will feature 48 teams divided into groups, with each team playing three matches. The top two teams from each group, plus the third-place teams, will advance to a 32-team knockout round, ultimately leading to the tournament finals.
This update includes exciting new features for Ultimate Team players, like a central Event Hub and special in-game campaigns celebrating the Festival of Football. Players who log in between June 5th and July 24th will receive a bonus: a high-rated (93 OVR) ICON version of Pelé, plus three unique Evolutions to customize your players’ development path.
The Festival of Football event is adding 100 new international players to Ultimate Team, featuring the iconic players Rivellino and Mario Kempes.
I’m so excited that EA Sports FC 26 is out on pretty much everything – PC, all the PlayStation and Xbox consoles, and even Nintendo Switch and the new Switch 2! I checked out the PS5 version, and I gave it an 8 out of 10 – it’s really good. If you’re on the go, the mobile version, EA Sports FC Mobile, is available for both iOS and Android too.
