Destruction AllStars Has Been De-Listed, Servers to Shut Down on November 25th

Sony is closing the online servers for Destruction AllStars, the PlayStation 5 game released in 2021. They notified players by email and have also removed the game and its in-game currency, Destruction Points, from the PlayStation Store.

If you already own Destruction AllStars and have it connected to your PlayStation account, you can still play the single-player modes until November 25th. You’ll also be able to use any Destruction Points you’ve earned up until that date. After November 25th, the game’s servers will be shut down.

Players who already have the game can still enjoy single-player content like Arcade Mode and its challenges. However, the company warns that the upcoming server shutdown might affect how well these features work, and all online services will eventually be discontinued.

Online multiplayer for the game is no longer available. Sony has said this is due to continuing technical problems and has permanently turned the feature off.

I was really surprised to hear rumors that Destruction AllStars might be getting pulled from the PlayStation Store! I checked myself earlier this week and couldn’t find it on the store in a couple of different regions. It’s weird because the game’s page is still up on the PlayStation website, and you can even add it to your wishlist, but it just says it’s ‘announced.’ The page feels really bare bones now, though – there are no player reviews or ratings, and the section where you used to see all the different versions of the game you could buy is completely empty. It’s a bit concerning, to be honest.

When Destruction AllStars launched, it cost $19.99. Luckily, PlayStation Plus members could get it for free during the first two months. The price might have prevented the game from gaining a large following, and after just one year, there were reports it could become free-to-play.

We rated Destruction AllStars a 7 out of 10. It’s a fun game with exciting car combat, precise controls, and runs smoothly.

Developed by Lucid Games, Destruction AllStars was among the initial games released for the PlayStation 5. The game presented its multiplayer action as a high-energy, global competition where drivers and vehicles clashed. Players chose from 16 different characters, each with a special vehicle. While focused on car combat, Destruction AllStars also let players get out of their vehicles and fight on foot. When on foot, players used unique abilities – like hijacking opponents’ cars or turning invisible – to counter the powerful vehicle weapons.

I was a bit sad to see Lucid Games move on after making Destruction AllStars, but it’s been really interesting to follow what they’ve been up to! By 2023, they started helping Rare with Sea of Thieves, which seemed like a great fit. Then, in July, they got acquired by LightSpeed Studios, which is part of Tencent. The coolest thing is, Lucid Games said they’ll still be running things and making the games they want, but now with the extra support and tech from LightSpeed. That sounds like a win-win to me!
