Maverick Games, the team behind an upcoming story-driven driving game, is hinting that they’re about to release a trailer. They playfully asked their followers on social media if they were ready for a reveal, and then shared a picture of an actual trailer – suggesting the trailer is coming very soon.
Even though the recent posts were obviously meant as jokes, Maverick Games is now starting to talk about their project, suggesting we could see a trailer or teaser soon. The timing suggests this reveal might happen during one of the upcoming gaming showcases next week, potentially including Sony’s State of Play.
Another post adds to the mystery with a link to a livestream counting down to an unknown event. As of today, the countdown shows 5 days and 18 hours remaining, and the livestream displays a video of a parked car that appears to be inside an office building.
So, early in 2023, I started hearing about this new studio called Maverick Games. It turns out it’s made up of a bunch of really talented people who used to work at Playground Games – the folks behind Forza Horizon! They’re aiming to make high-quality, AAA games, and their studio is located in Leamington Spa. I was especially stoked to see names like Tom Butcher, who used to lead production on Forza, and Gareth Harwood heading up content. Fraser Strachan’s doing audio, Matt Craven’s the CTO, and they even snagged Elly Marshall from EA to handle UX/UI – a seriously impressive team!
So, I was really excited about this open-world driving game Maverick Games was making – it sounded awesome! They announced Amazon was going to publish it back in 2024, but then Amazon pulled out earlier this year. Apparently, Amazon said they wanted to give Maverick Games the freedom to find a publisher that’s a better fit for what they’re trying to do with the game. It’s a bit of a bummer, but hopefully, they’ll find someone great to work with!
To better concentrate on projects that utilize Amazon’s strengths, like the recent Luna relaunch and our partnership with Crystal Dynamics on the Tomb Raider franchise, we’ve decided to end our publishing agreement with Maverick Games, a company spokesperson said.
We greatly admire the Maverick Games team and the exciting story-driven racing game they’re developing. They’ve decided to seek a different publishing partner whose goals better match their plans for releasing the game. We’re happy with what we achieved together and wish them all the best going forward.
In an update, creative director Mike Brown and CEO Harindar Sangha expressed gratitude for the company’s support. They also confirmed that their racing game is still being made and that they’re now talking to other potential publishers.
We appreciate our work with Amazon Games and are happy with how development on our first game is going. We’re currently talking to potential partners who are excited about the future of the game, and we plan to have more news to share later this year.
