How Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt’s Daughter Shiloh Carves Her Own Path

I’m so excited for Shiloh Jolie! She officially turned 20 on May 27th, and it feels like just yesterday she was a little one. She’s been keeping busy, which is amazing to see. A lot of people probably noticed her incredible dancing in Dayoung’s “What’s a Girl to Do” music video – it was fantastic! But it’s important to know she didn’t just get the part because of her parents, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. She actually had to audition, just like everyone else at the Millennium Dance Complex in LA, and she earned it! I’m really proud of her for following her passion and working hard.

According to Starship Entertainment, Shiloh was chosen as a last-minute addition to Dayoung’s music video. They only recently discovered her famous parents – Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt – completely by chance, even after filming had wrapped.

Although Shiloh comes from a family with a strong acting background, Brad Pitt jokingly admitted she didn’t get her dancing talent from him. In a 2022 interview with Entertainment Tonight, he said, “I don’t know where she got it from, because I have two left feet!” Shiloh also legally dropped the surname Pitt in 2024.

Brad Pitt shared that he hopes his children—Shiloh, Maddox (24), Pax (22), Zahara (21), and twins Knox and Vivienne (17)—will pursue what they love. He explained, “I want them to find their own path, discover their interests, and truly thrive.”

Shiloh is pursuing dance and has occasionally joined her mom at movie premieres, but she doesn’t seem interested in becoming a celebrity herself. Angelina Jolie has said that none of her children want to follow in her and Brad Pitt’s famous footsteps. While Maddox and Pax helped behind the scenes on Angelina’s 2024 film, Maria, they generally dislike the attention that comes with fame – Shiloh especially.

Angelina’s main goal is for her children to be happy and to live authentic lives. She hopes she’s giving them the freedom to discover who they are and find something meaningful to dedicate themselves to. As Shiloh enters a new decade, you can learn more about her and her siblings.

Angelina Jolie first fell in love with Cambodia while filming the movie Tomb Raider in 2001. Years later, she traveled to Battambang, a town in the Cambodian countryside, hoping to adopt her first child from a local orphanage.

She later told Vanity Fair that she didn’t feel a connection with any of her children until she saw Maddox, who was born on August 5, 2001. He was lying in a box hanging from the ceiling, and she instantly felt a bond with him, saying she ‘cried and cried’.

She adopted her oldest son as a single parent, but when she started dating Brad Pitt, he began the process of adopting him too.

Maddox Jolie-Pitt became an executive producer on his mother Angelina Jolie’s 2017 film, First They Killed My Father, because of his interest in her work. The film is based on a book by Loung Ung about the Cambodian genocide. He told People magazine that he wanted to contribute to the project in any way he could. He also described his mother as “fun, funny, and easy to work with,” adding that “She’s a wonder.”

Maddox studied biochemistry at Yonsei University in South Korea, which his mother was thrilled about. In April 2023, he attended a state dinner at the White House hosted by President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden for South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and First Lady Kim Keon Hee.

Angelina Jolie described Pax’s early childhood as difficult, explaining that he spent the first three and a half years of his life in a Vietnamese orphanage near Ho Chi Minh City. She told MSN in 2007 that he lived in a single room with around 20 other children and had no control over his own life or freedom.

Maddox is adjusting well to life with his new siblings, Zahara and Shiloh, and his parents. Angelina explained that he’s quickly learning English and blossoming in this open and loving environment. He’s energetic and a bit mischievous, enjoying his newfound freedom, but she describes him as a remarkably resilient and special little boy.

Pax had an early involvement in the film industry, fueled by a family connection. He voiced a character in Angelina Jolie’s 2016 animated film, Kung Fu Panda 3, and worked as a set photographer on First They Killed My Father. In 2018, he accompanied his mother to the Golden Globes.

He assisted with the design of Atelier Jolie, a fashion and tailoring studio Angelina Jolie launched in New York City, and also worked as an assistant director on the set of her movie, Without Blood, which was filmed in Italy.

Angelina explained to People that working with her sons, Pax and Maddox, felt natural because a good film set often feels like a family.

I remember when Angelina first brought Zahara home – it was such a special moment! Little Maddox, who was only three at the time, came with her to the orphanage in Hawassa, Ethiopia, where they met Zahara, born in January 2005. Angelina later told Anderson Cooper that Maddox absolutely adored her. Because Zahara was already seven months old when she joined the family, Maddox saw her a bit like a little baby sister he could cuddle and care for – it was just so sweet to see their bond forming.

As a mom myself, I’ve always believed in sharing your passions with your kids, and Angelina Jolie’s daughter, Zahara, is a perfect example! She’s clearly taken an interest in all aspects of her mother’s work, from glamorous red carpet events to incredibly important humanitarian efforts. I was so impressed when she launched her own jewelry line, the Zahara Collection, with Robert Procop back in 2019 – what a fantastic way to express her creativity and support a good cause! And it’s truly inspiring to see her accompany her mom on trips to Syrian refugee camps, actively participating in her work with the UNHCR. It’s wonderful when children get involved in making a difference.

In August 2022, Angelina Jolie became tearful as she dropped her daughter Zahara off at Spelman College in Atlanta, jokingly hoping to avoid crying in a video she shared on Instagram. She later returned to campus to participate in the school’s homecoming celebration.

Zahara became a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority at her school in 2023 and has since traveled with the actress to Washington, D.C. several times. She supported Angelina during an emotional speech in February 2022 urging the renewal of the Violence Against Women Act, and again a year later when they lobbied lawmakers to pass the Justice for All Reauthorization Act of 2022.

Angelina and Brad welcomed their daughter, Shiloh, into the world on May 27, 2006, at a hospital in Swakopmund, Namibia. In an interview with MSN, Angelina described Shiloh as being full of joy and humor, calling her a “little honey” and playfully predicting she would be a bit mischievous – just like her!

Shiloh first stepped onto the red carpet at the premiere of Unbroken in 2014. Since then, she’s attended events for films like Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, The Breadwinner, and Dumbo, as well as the 2018 National Board of Review Awards Gala and the premiere of Eternals in 2021, where she famously wore a gown previously worn by her mother.

Angelina Jolie loves when her kids borrow clothes from her closet. She told TopMob’s Daily Pop that she encourages them to wear things, even better than she does, and to feel free to take whatever they like. She embraces being the mom who lets her kids express themselves through fashion.

Shiloh not only admires Angelina’s charity work, but also appears to be exploring a career in entertainment, recently spending time practicing at the Millennium Dance Complex in Los Angeles.

In 2024, on her eighteenth birthday, she filed a legal request at a Los Angeles court to drop the ‘Pitt’ from her last name and officially become known as Shiloh Nouvel Jolie. The change was finalized a few months later.

Angelina first showed off her baby bump at the 2008 Independent Spirit Awards. She then welcomed twins, Knox and Vivienne, in Nice, France, on July 12, 2008. After settling into their home, Château Miraval, she told People magazine that life was chaotic but wonderful. Shiloh and Zahara enjoyed helping with the twins, picking out their clothes and assisting with care.

Angelina pointed out that her son, Brad, shared many similarities with his grandfather, Hal Knox Hillhouse, both in personality and appearance. This resemblance was clearly visible when they attended the 2015 British motorcycle Grand Prix.

Following in the footsteps of her older children, Pax, Zahara, and Shiloh, Knox voiced a small character, Ku Ku, in the 2016 film Kung Fu Panda 3. According to Jolie, the kids were hesitant about acting but she didn’t want them to miss out on the experience. She shared with ET that they ended up having a lot of fun with it.

Angelina described her twin brother, Knox, as being similar to their late mother, Marcheline Bertrand. She explained to TopMob News that Knox isn’t interested in being the center of attention, but rather in helping other artists. He’s dedicated and takes theatre seriously, always striving to understand how he can best contribute.

Despite a strong performance as a young Elle Fanning’s Aurora in the 2014 film Maleficent – Angelina Jolie was impressed with her ability to stay on cue – the actress has since focused on work behind the camera.

Angelina shared that her daughter, Vivienne, inspired her to work on bringing the movie The Outsiders to Broadway. Vivienne then volunteered to help her mom, a Tony Award-winning producer, with the show.

You know, my daughter Vivienne is a total natural when it comes to her work on the play! She’s not afraid to keep me on track, and honestly, she’s a surprisingly stern assistant. She’ll happily remind me if I’ve missed something, like, ‘Mom, didn’t you get the memo? We have to do this!’ She takes her role incredibly seriously, and I’m so proud of her dedication.
