A Forgotten Pokemon Game Just Announced Its First Update in Years (And Fans Have High Hopes)

Over the years, Pokémon has launched several games for mobile devices, but some have disappeared. While older titles like Pokémon Rumble Rush are no longer available, others still exist. Pokémon Shuffle Mobile hasn’t received a major update in years, but it’s still playable. So, when players received a notification within the game recently – after a long period of silence – they were concerned it might be shutting down. Fortunately, the notification announced an upcoming update instead.

Pokemon Shuffle Mobile players were surprised on May 26th with news of an upcoming update. After three years without a new version, the puzzle game will receive maintenance on June 9th to install version 1.17.0. This is the first update in many years, and some fans are excited that The Pokemon Company might be adding more support to the game.

Pokémon Shuffle Mobile launched in August 2015, bringing a puzzle game originally on Nintendo 3DS to iOS and Android devices. Remarkably, it’s become one of the longest-running Pokémon games still available, with players continuing to enjoy its match-3 puzzle style even after 11 years. People appreciate how fair the free-to-play system is and how easy and fun the game is to play. It’s surprising to many that the game is still running, considering how often older games are discontinued.

When players saw the in-app message, many worried the game was shutting down. After 11 years and several years without an update, that wouldn’t have been surprising. However, instead of ending service, Pokemon Shuffle is actually getting a server update. This likely won’t bring new content or improvements to the game itself, but some players are still optimistic about what the update might mean for the future.

As a big fan of these puzzle games, I’m really excited to see Pokemon Cafe Mix and Pokemon Shuffle Mobile getting some attention! It makes me wonder if The Pokemon Company is planning something new for them. Cafe Mix has already had a big update, and another one’s coming, though a lot of us still love the original Pokemon Shuffle. With no news yet about what’s happening later in 2026 after Pokemon Champions comes out on Switch, and Pokemon Winds and Waves not due until 2027, I’m hoping we’ll hear something soon. This recent update to Shuffle Mobile feels like a good sign that more content might be coming, which would be amazing!

It’s now confirmed that the servers for Pokemon Shuffle Mobile won’t be shutting down in the near future. The game will continue to be supported for players who still enjoy it.
