With so many indie horror game trailers appearing on the PlayStation YouTube channel each week, it’s easy to miss them. But one recently stood out to me: Perceptum. You play as a psychic investigator exploring an empty house to find a missing family.
A case the police have given up on, you use a pocket mirror to reveal secrets and ghosts.
The psychological thriller Perceptum explores the unsettling question of being watched. Developed by Duck Reaction, the game is slated for release on PS5 in 2027 and aims to create a three-hour experience filled with discomfort, uncertainty, and a constant sense that something is lurking just beyond your perception.
In this game, the pocket mirror is your most important item – you can’t directly fight anything you encounter. It lets you see hidden clues and things that are invisible to the naked eye. You can also close your eyes in the game, which seems to be a risky but helpful tactic. Closing your eyes shows you the way forward, but it leaves you vulnerable since you can’t defend yourself.
I’m really excited about this game, particularly as something to anticipate after the release of Silent Hill: Townfall later this year. It seems very promising, but we’ll have to see how the final version turns out on PS5 next year. Right now, you can sign up for a playtest on PC.
