The Simpsons Announces New Summer Episodes (But Some Fans Might Not be Happy)

After finishing its thirty-seventh season in February with fifteen episodes, The Simpsons is offering fans a treat while they wait for season thirty-eight. Disney plans to release three new episodes this summer, including one that’s twice as long as usual. However, viewers will only be able to watch these episodes through one specific platform in June, July, and August.

Unlike last season, the next three episodes of The Simpsons won’t air on Fox. Instead, they’ll be available only on Disney+, which might be disappointing for viewers who don’t have a subscription. Disney+ has been releasing original Simpsons content for a while now, including shorts and specials. Along with the announcement, a new trailer has been released, hinting at some unusual storylines. One episode features Homer Simpson imitating The Joker with full clown makeup, promising a mind-bending adventure. You can watch the trailer below.

Disney also revealed details about the next season of The Simpsons, including when new episodes will be available on Disney+ and what they’ll be about. You’ll find a summary of the episodes below.

Get ready for “Extreme Makeover: Homer Edition,” premiering June 17, 2026, only on Disney+. This special double-episode starts with a date night gone wrong for Homer and Marge when Marge discovers Homer left the kids home alone, relying only on the doorbell camera to watch them. Feeling frustrated, Marge starts imagining different versions of Homer. The special features guest star Betty Gilpin, and musical performances by Laufey and Tegan and Sara.

Premiering July 3, 2026, only on Disney+, “Simpsley” is a Simpsons noir that follows Marge Bouvier, a down-on-her-luck con artist. She’s sent to Italy with the task of persuading the gullible Seymour Skinner to return home. However, she finds herself drawn to Skinner’s luxurious life, and complicated by the presence of his freeloading and clueless houseguest, Homer Simpson. Expect deception, desire, and a lot of Italian currency in this Disney+ exclusive.

On August 26, 2026, Disney+ will premiere “Yellow Mirror,” a special featuring two unsettling stories. One story reveals a sad truth about Homer’s perception of reality through a broken lamp, while the other follows Maggie as she develops a friendship—and is controlled—by an AI tablet. The Simpsons must navigate these strange and dark events in this Disney+ exclusive.

We don’t know yet when season thirty-eight of The Simpsons will air, but the show has been renewed for at least forty seasons. It’s currently the longest-running animated series in the United States.
