The Twisted Childhood Universe expands….
As a horror fan, I’ve noticed a trend of taking beloved childhood characters and turning them into something terrifying, and the trailer for Pinocchio Unstrung is the latest example. It’s part of this whole ‘Twisted Childhood Universe’ – you might have heard of Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey and its sequel, or Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare and Bambi: The Reckoning. They’re really leaning into dark reimaginings of these classic stories!
The Pinocchio Unstrung trailer…
In this retelling of the classic tale, Geppetto (Richard Brake) presents his grandson, James, with a magical doll named Pinocchio. James, not realizing how innocent Pinocchio is, brings him out into the world, and the doll embarks on a mission to destroy everything he considers evil, led by the unsettling Cricket (Robert Englund).
Behind the scenes….
This film comes from the team behind Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, writer and director Rhys Frake-Waterfield, and producer Scott Chambers, who also produced Bambi: The Reckoning and Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare. The cast includes Richard Brake (known for Barbarian) and horror icon Robert Englund (A Nightmare on Elm Street), alongside Cameron Bell, who is making his first appearance in a feature film.
A few more facts…
This new film will premiere in the UK in June at the Raindance Film Festival, where it’s up for four awards, including Best UK Feature and Best Performance in a UK Feature for Richard Brake. It’s a scary reimagining of the classic story The Adventures of Pinocchio. Like previous films in this series, it’s expected to be a low-budget, very gory movie filled with creative and violent on-screen deaths… all delivered by a puppet with the expressive capabilities of Amanda Holden after Botox.
