For All Mankind‘s first spinoff is chasing success across the stars.
Apple TV+ has quickly become a top destination for science fiction fans, offering a diverse range of shows that explore different aspects of the genre. The new sci-fi series Star City has launched to rave reviews, earning a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes based on five critic reviews. It premieres on Apple TV this Friday, May 29th, with the first two episodes available immediately. The first season will have eight episodes total, released weekly after the premiere. Star City is a spinoff of Apple TV’s popular show For All Mankind, which is also airing its season 5 finale, “This Land Is Our Land,” on the same day.
The popular sci-fi series For All Mankind will return for a sixth and final season in 2027. The show is known for its unique take on history, imagining a world where the Soviet Union beat the United States to the moon, leading to an ongoing space race. Each season of the Apple TV+ series jumps forward in time to a new decade, and the final season, titled Star City, will delve into the Soviet perspective on the moon landing and its aftermath.
The new series Star City has a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, making it even better-reviewed than For All Mankind, which has a still-excellent 91% rating across all five seasons. Interestingly, seasons 2 and 4 of For All Mankind also earned a perfect 100% score. As of today, audience ratings for Star City aren’t available yet – the show premieres on Apple TV on May 29 – but the success of those For All Mankind seasons gives a good indication of what viewers can expect.
Both seasons 2 and 4 of For All Mankind have earned a perfect 100% score from critics and a strong 83% audience score, suggesting that new viewers will likely enjoy the first season of Star City as well. While Star City is just being released and currently has only five critic reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, its initial scores indicate a promising start, though they are expected to change over the first week.
