Fans of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End have a bit to look forward to! A new season of the anime is scheduled to premiere in October 2027. In the meantime, Yen Press has announced that the second volume of the Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End prequel novel will be released on October 13, 2026. This novel delves into the backstories of the characters, offering more insight into their lives. Pre-orders for both physical and digital copies are now available on the Yen Press website, Amazon, and Crunchyroll. The 160-page book will be available in paperback and digital formats. The first volume, released in English this past March, featured five original short stories about Frieren and her companions. Written by Mei Hachimoku with supervision from Kanehito Yamada, and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe (who also worked on the manga), the second volume will focus on the pasts of Übel, Frieren’s early life, Serie’s time as a teacher, a young demon’s thoughts, and a receptionist at the Northern Branch of the Continental Magic Association.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 3 Will Adapt The Fan-Favorite Arc
The third season of the anime will premiere next October, adapting the popular “Golden Land Arc” from the original manga. This arc centers around a legendary city that has mysteriously turned to gold. After defeating Revolte, Frieren and her companions said goodbye to Methode and Genau and continued their journey. They hear rumors of this golden city, and while Fern and Stark are intrigued, Frieren pretends not to know much about it, though it’s clear she has some prior knowledge. People from across the continent are flocking to the city, hoping to catch a glimpse of its golden splendor.
The season two finale confirmed the existence of the Golden City and revealed it’s the home of Denken. It’s also where one of the incredibly powerful Seven Sages of Destruction lives. Soon after the finale, the show’s website announced the next season’s release timeframe and gave fans their first look at Mahat, one of these Sages. Mahat is a major character who will play a significant role in the upcoming season.
The anime is still being made, but there’s no news yet about when the manga will continue after its break. The manga went on hiatus in October 2025, just three months after starting up again from a previous pause. The creators are taking time to rest and working on the story carefully to avoid overwork. This break is meant to help them get back on schedule, and we expect new chapters to be released in a few months.
