Coronation Street reveals Tyrone Dobbs’s dark secret in early ITVX release

Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) has been keeping a big secret on Coronation Street. Now it’s been revealed why he lied to the police about where Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) was the night Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) died.

She could spend the rest of her life in prison, and the evidence against her is overwhelming. This includes a journal she tried to destroy, her brooch discovered at the crime scene, and a witness – George Shuttleworth – who saw her fleeing from Theo’s apartment.

Summer believed Tyrone could vouch for her innocence. He’d seen her leave the apartment and had also spotted Theo alive and well, looking through the curtains.

Despite being questioned by the police, he claimed he wasn’t involved. He recently called someone, sounding worried, and suggested they needed to come up with a strategy together.

Summer desperately pleaded with Todd Grimshaw for assistance, explaining that Tyrone had seen her and Theo earlier, and she couldn’t understand why he was pretending he hadn’t.

Todd instantly blamed Tyrone for Summer’s imprisonment, confronting him at the Rovers and accusing him of lying to the police. Tyrone strongly denied ever having seen Summer, refusing to take responsibility.

Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) visited Summer in prison and suggested she consider a plea bargain for manslaughter, hoping it would reduce her potential sentence. Summer was horrified, insisting she wasn’t involved in the death.

Tyrone was telling Ronnie Bailey about what had happened, suggesting they both be honest about it. Unbeknownst to him, Carl Webster was nearby, listening intently to their conversation.

A revealing flashback showed Tyrone leaving Carla and Lisa Connor-Swain’s wedding reception and spotting that the shutter at Webster’s Autocentre was open.

He cautiously went inside and was shocked to see Carl tampering with Kevin’s car brakes. Immediately, Tyrone started recording a video with his phone.

He lost his balance and, trying to steady himself, grabbed a trolley jack. This caused the vehicle to fall onto Carl. Panicked, Tyrone ran away and accidentally collided with Ronnie, who told him to leave and said he would handle the situation.

As we saw at the time, Ronnie drove him to the hospital so that he could recover from his injuries.

He remembered seeing Summer stumble out of the apartment over the corner shop. As he looked up, he also noticed Theo watching her go from the window.

At the end of the episode, I really felt for Ty. His wife, Fiz, tried her best to comfort him, suggesting Summer must have gotten the wrong idea about everything. She seemed hopeful that things would eventually turn out okay for her, and honestly, I’m hoping so too.

Will Tyrone’s guilty conscience get the better of him?
