Tom Hardy ‘not fired’ from MobLand and in talks for season 3, as co-star Helen Mirren shows support

The situation surrounding the Paramount+ series MobLand continues to develop. Recent reports confirm that Tom Hardy hasn’t been fired from the show, though there are apparently some issues and disagreements happening behind the scenes.

Created by Ronan Bennett, who also worked on ‘Top Boy,’ the series features Hardy playing Harry Da Souza, a man who handles problems for the powerful Harrigan crime family, headed by the intimidating Conrad (Pierce Brosnan) and Maeve (Dame Helen Mirren).

Despite a very successful first season, the show’s future is uncertain due to reports of increasing tension between star Tom Hardy and the lead writer, Jez Butterworth.

Recent reports claimed Hardy was fired, but sources connected to the show have told Variety that the situation hasn’t reached that point yet.

Reports suggest that Tom Hardy could be challenging to work with on set. This seems to be due to him occasionally arriving late, requesting a lot of rehearsal, and often proposing changes to the script.

However, the report also mentions that tension arose because of Butterworth being unavailable on set. He was working on other projects at the same time, and one source felt he was overextended.

According to Variety, Guy Ritchie, an executive producer and director on MobLand, has a strong working relationship with the lead actor, allowing him to provide constructive criticism when needed – something newer directors haven’t been able to do as effectively.

Apparently, this has made it difficult to produce episodes that Ritchie didn’t direct.

Helen Mirren, who starred alongside Hardy, tried to stop rumors of a disagreement between them by posting a photo of him on Instagram with the message, “Love you now and always.”

According to Variety, Tom Hardy’s repeated tardiness on set annoyed Helen Mirren, but they maintained a good working relationship despite it.

Honestly, things are a little up in the air right now, but it sounds like Tom Hardy had finished most of season 2 of MobLand – aside from any touch-ups they might need later. The real blow would be if something happened that prevented him from doing season 3, though even that isn’t completely off the table, and there’s still a chance he could be back for it. As a fan, I’m really hoping he is!

According to a source speaking with Variety, Tom Cruise was not let go from the project, and discussions are ongoing about a potential third season. They are currently working through creative issues.

TopMob has reached out to Hardy’s representatives and Paramount for comment.
