Strictly Come Dancing’s new host Josh Widdicombe reveals previous visit to set – and jokes he has influence over the judges

Comedian Josh Widdicombe, the new host of Strictly Come Dancing, playfully admitted on this week’s Blankety Blank that he may have been responsible for a past contestant being voted off the show.

Comedian Alex Brooker, known from The Last Leg, will join Emma Willis and Strictly Come Dancing’s Johannes Radebe as a new host of the popular BBC show.

During Saturday’s (May 30th) episode of Blankety Blank, the celebrity panel playfully joked with Jon Richardson about previous collaborations they’d shared with him.

Sam Quek, a former hockey player and TV personality who was on Strictly Come Dancing in 2024, described her feelings about Josh as complicated, saying she has a love-hate relationship with him.

She explained that the last time they really talked was during the week she was eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing.

Widdicombe jokingly said he went to see Strictly Come Dancing and told the judges that one contestant needed to improve her performance. He felt she wasn’t quite up to par yet.

The popular game show Blankety Blank returned in April for a new season, once again hosted by Bradley Walsh. It originally premiered in 1979.

In the show, Walsh welcomes six celebrities to the studio to fill in the blanks and help contestants win prizes.

This week’s show includes Helen George, Ria Lina, Dean McCullough, Josh Widdicombe, Sam Campbell, alongside Widdicombe and Quek.

Earlier this month, it was announced that Widdicombe, Willis, and Radebe will be the new hosts of Strictly Come Dancing. They’ll begin their presenting duties on the show later this year.

After the news was revealed, Willis shared her excitement, saying she’s a long-time fan of the show and is still trying to process the fact that she’ll be competing on Strictly.

Widdicombe expressed his excitement and humility about taking on a major role in television, saying he felt both thrilled and a bit intimidated by the opportunity.

I’m absolutely thrilled to hear that Trevor Radebe is coming back to Strictly! He said it’s a dream come true for him to be back in this new role, and honestly, I can’t imagine how excited he must be. It’s just fantastic news for all of us fans!

Blankety Blank continues on Saturday 30th May at 6:50pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
