Hilaria Baldwin Addresses 26-Year Age Gap With Alec Baldwin

Hilaria Baldwin and Alec Baldwin’s relationship isn’t all that complicated.

The wellness expert shared the keys to a happy marriage with the It’s Complicated actor, including how they laugh about their 26-year age gap.

“It seems absurd to imagine a 27-year-old yoga teacher married to a much older, wealthy celebrity,” Hilaria told the Daily Mail in an interview on May 29. “It’s the kind of premise you’d expect to see in a silly Saturday Night Live skit.”

It all worked out well in the end, but we’re always teasing each other as a family,” she explained. “I think a lot of people assumed Alec wanted someone he could control, but actually, we’re equals.”

As for Alec, he knew when the pair first connected that he’d met a “very special person.”

The actor, known for Beetlejuice, said he met her before she was famous. He was impressed by her strong work ethic and thought she was incredibly beautiful, both inside and out.

Despite their age gap and other differences, Hilaria, 42, and Alec, 68, have managed to maintain a harmonious relationship.

My yoga teacher and I are really different people – total opposites, actually. But you know what she says? We just let each other be. And I truly believe that’s why our relationship has lasted so long. We don’t try to change each other, we just accept each other for who we are.

As for how they keep the spark alive?

Okay, so Hilaria just told me – well, not me personally, but she said it in an interview, and it’s basically the same thing – that even with all their crazy work schedules, she and Alec make time for each other! She said they’re always trying to squeeze in date nights, and honestly, it’s the cutest! It usually just means a nice dinner, but still! They prioritize each other, and I’m living for it!

“He really enjoys a nice meal,” she said. “We either eat out or I cook at home, and we usually spend the time talking about our seven children and what we’ve been working on.”

Oh my gosh, Hilaria and Alec Baldwin! I’ve been following them since they got married in 2012, and it’s been quite a ride. They have so many adorable kids – Carmen, who’s getting so grown up at 12, then Rafael, Leonardo, Romeo… it just keeps going! Eduardo and Maria Lucia are five, and little Ilaria is three. But honestly, through all the cuteness, they’ve definitely had their share of tough times, you know? I always worry about them!

Hilaria shared that life has been a whirlwind of experiences – a mix of wonderful moments and difficult times – but they’ve always found a way to cope and move forward.

Alec, who has a 30-year-old daughter named Ireland with his ex-wife Kim Basinger, is happy with how things are.

He said he prefers to stay home, even though he enjoys going to work.

As he put it, “I want to stay home and do nothing and be with the kids.”

Alec Baldwin shared with the New York Times that he met Hilaria Thomas at Pure Food and Wine in New York City in February 2011 and immediately gave her his phone number. They spent some time trying to connect for a date, playing phone tag until they were finally able to schedule dinner together.

That August they enjoyed their first US Open together, one of Alec’s favorite events.

Alec first noticed Hilaria at an Elton John AIDS Foundation event in October 2011. They quickly began dating and were living together by the following month.

Alec Baldwin and Hilaria were together at the Cannes Film Festival in 2012. He explained that after his divorce, he did a lot of thinking about what he wanted in a relationship and in life. He realized he’d overthought things and wasn’t prepared to start dating again until he met Hilaria.

In April 2012, Alec’s rep confirmed to TopMob News that he and Hilaria were engaged.

Hilaria and Ireland Baldwin often share about their close friendship on Twitter. Ireland playfully tweeted she’d be a “flower girl” at a wedding, but she actually served as a bridesmaid.

The couple got married on June 30, 2012, at the Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral in Manhattan, surrounded by loved ones. The bride wore a beautiful silk trumpet gown by Amsale, and the groom looked sharp in a Tom Ford tuxedo.

The couple now has seven children: Carmen Gabriela (born August 23, 2013), Rafael Thomas (June 17, 2015), Leonardo Ángel Charles (September 12, 2016), Romeo Alejandro David (May 17, 2018), Eduardo “Edu” Pao Lucas (September 8, 2020), María Lucía Victoria (born February 25, 2021, via surrogacy), and Ilaria Catalina Irena (September 22, 2022).

The whole family will be starring on TLC’s The Baldwins, premiering Feb. 23, 2025.
