Jamie Lee Curtis’ Sister Kelly Curtis Dead at 69

Jamie Lee Curtis is in mourning after a devastating loss.

The Freakier Friday star shared that her sister Kelly Curtis died May 30. She was 69.

Jamie Lee Curtis shared the news on Instagram May 30th that her older sister, Kelly Lee Curtis, had passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by nature.

The actress described her as her very first friend and someone she could always confide in. She was stunningly beautiful and a gifted performer. Beyond her talent, she enjoyed simple pleasures like playing card games, collecting turtles, and spending time with loved ones. She had a passion for nature, music, bargain hunting, travel, and even games like Pokémon Go. She was proud of her heritage – her Danish and Hungarian Jewish roots – and deeply loved her country.

Kelly Curtis began her acting career at the incredibly young age of 2, appearing in the 1958 film The Vikings alongside her parents, famous actors Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh.

After earning a business degree from Skidmore College in 1972, she initially worked as a stockbroker. She then pursued her passion for acting by studying at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute.

Kelly enjoyed a successful acting career, appearing in films like Trading Places (1983) and the German comedy Magic Stick (1987). She also supported her younger sister by working as an assistant on several of her movies, including Freaky Friday (2003), Christmas With the Kranks (2004), and You Again (2010).

Kelly is survived by her husband, Scott Morfee, and her siblings, Alexandra Curtis, Allegra Curtis, and Ben Curtis, who were Tony’s stepchildren from later marriages. She was also a stepmother to Nicholas Curtis, who sadly passed away in 1994 due to a heroin overdose.

Beyond her professional life, Kelly will be fondly remembered for her kindness, strong beliefs, and inquisitive nature. She was known for her distinctive fashion sense and, especially, for the delicious almond crescent cookies she baked every Christmas – earning her the nickname “Auntie Cookie.”

Jamie explained that Kelly always ended her messages with a Hungarian blessing. She’d say, “Isten Veled,” which means “God is with you.”

She said goodbye to her sister, Tai, using the words “Isten Veled,” and promised to see her again sometime.
