This new series from the Duffer Brothers got off to a disappointing start, attracting 35.3 million viewing hours and 5.6 million views in its first week. Compared to other hyped debuts, like the first season of The Night Agent (20.6 million views) and Man on Fire (11 million views), these numbers are considerably lower. Although the series landed at number two on Netflix’s Top 10 list, it’s unclear if this will be enough to build long-term success.
I’m really bummed to see The Boroughs isn’t getting the attention it deserves. The idea behind the show is so fresh – it’s about the residents of a peaceful retirement community who suddenly have to become heroes! They’re facing these strange, otherworldly threats that are trying to steal their time, and they have to step up and fight back. Plus, the cast is amazing! Seeing Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, and Bill Pullman all together is fantastic – everyone delivers such strong performances.
What’s Behind the Lack of Viewership for The Boroughs?
Online, people are suggesting a few reasons why The Boroughs isn’t resonating with everyone. Some think the creators, the Duffer Brothers, might be losing their touch after Stranger Things, while others point to predictable storylines and a mystery that was too easily solved.
