PlayStation fans are really looking forward to a major State of Play event this week – and we’ve already discussed why it’s so important.
Considering the event was announced earlier than normal and is being promoted through partnerships with theaters nationwide, we can anticipate a strong turnout – even if the most exciting part turns out to be a preview of the new Marvel’s Wolverine game.
Fans are excited about a countdown clock on the official PlayStation website, believing it hints at a major announcement or event.
I initially checked the homepage, thinking that’s where this would be, but it’s actually located on a separate page dedicated to State of Play. I used the Wayback Machine to see how long the page has existed, and while it’s been up for a while, I couldn’t find any record of it ever having a countdown timer before.
I don’t think this announcement is significant, other than the fact that this State of Play was revealed much earlier than usual. Typically, the company only provides a few days’ warning, so a countdown isn’t necessary.
I’m curious if the initial announcement was connected to the Alamo Drafthouse collaboration. Sony likely needed extra time to handle ticket sales and finalize the menu, which has since been revealed.
I was honestly a bit surprised by last week’s poll – only 36% of you thought this State of Play would be the most-watched one ever! I really think it’s going to break all the previous viewership records, considering how popular these streams have become. But, I guess we’ll all just have to tune in tomorrow and see for ourselves!
Honestly, I’ve been really impressed with the recent State of Plays. It feels like Sony is finally hitting their stride with these livestreams and really knows how to put them together now.
I don’t think any of those things prove a major event is coming, but I’m confident it will be fun.
