Actually, Jimmy Kimmel has been considering ending his talk show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, for several years, he recently shared.

In a recent interview with Vulture, Jimmy Kimmel said he considered leaving his show back in 2017, when Joe Biden was in office.

At 58, the host expressed growing disappointment about what’s next for his career after CBS cancelled Stephen Colbert’s The Late Show (Colbert delivered his final episode on May 21st).

He admitted feeling discouraged and said it reminded him of what his own future might hold.

Jimmy Kimmel has faced controversy before. Last September, his show was briefly taken off the air because of remarks he made about Charlie Kirk and a comment regarding a potential threat to his life.

Looking back on the difficult time, Jimmy Kimmel explained that when he was initially suspended, he made it clear he couldn’t continue hosting the show if he was going to be constantly controlled and told what to do.

Although the host of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? doesn’t have a specific date for leaving yet, his producer, Erin Irwin, has suggested the comedian—who started his own show in 2003—is looking forward to taking a break.

Irwin shared with Vulture that Kimmel has been considering retirement for some time. She expressed hope that he’ll continue hosting his show at least through the 2028 presidential election, especially considering he has four children – two with his current wife and two from a previous marriage.

“But I don’t know if Jimmy can do it for that long,” she added. “He’s tired.”
