Masters of the Universe Gives the Best Look Yet at Fan-Favorite Character (And It’s Perfect)

After almost 20 years of development setbacks, the live-action Masters of the Universe movie is finally hitting the big screen. Directed by Travis Knight and produced by Amazon MGM Studios with Mattel Films, the film tells the story of Prince Adam (Nicholas Galitzine), a young man who arrived on Earth as a child and must return to his home planet, Eternia, to embrace his fate as He-Man. Knight, a longtime fan of the franchise, has made sure the movie captures the bright, colorful look of the original 1982 Mattel toys and the popular 1983 cartoon. The cast – including Camila Mendes as Teela, Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms, and Morena Baccarin as The Sorceress – all wear costumes closely based on the classic toy designs.

I was so excited to see the new clip DiscussingFilm shared! It finally gives us a really good look at Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Skeletor’s right-hand woman. The scene takes place in Skeletor’s castle, and it’s hilarious – Evil-Lyn walks in right as Skeletor’s laughing after getting rid of a prisoner. But when nobody joins in, he gets totally upset! It’s both scary and funny, but honestly, the best part is finally hearing Brie’s voice as Evil-Lyn. It really brings the character to life, and I can’t wait to see more!

Evil-Lyn Looks Perfect in Masters of the Universe (And Surprisingly, So Does Skeletor)

As a lifelong fan, I’m thrilled with the new footage! It totally delivers on what Kevin Smith promised – a real respect for the look and feel of the original ’80s cartoon. And it’s clear Amazon MGM Studios is all in on the bright colors and wonderfully cheesy vibe of Eternia. Seriously, just look at Evil-Lyn’s costume! It’s amazing how faithfully they’ve brought those classic toy designs to life without losing any of the magic and fantasy. It feels like they genuinely get what made the show special.

Although Evil-Lyn is a strong character, Skeletor is perhaps the biggest success of the new Masters of the Universe series, especially considering actor Jack Leto’s recent history with big-budget films. Over the last ten years, Leto has faced increasing criticism due to strange behavior on set and poorly received roles. His portrayal of the Joker in Suicide Squad was widely mocked, and his lead role in Morbius was a box office failure. Most recently, Tron: Ares also flopped, leaving Leto without a single hit film in a decade. Because of this, many Masters of the Universe fans were initially doubtful about his casting as Skeletor, the iconic Lord of Destruction.

Honestly, I was a little worried about Jared Leto as Skeletor, but it seems the filmmakers cleverly worked with his tendencies. Because Skeletor is entirely CGI, they’ve managed to sidestep those sometimes distracting physical quirks he brings to roles. Plus, they’ve layered a really effective voice distortion over his dialogue, making him sound genuinely menacing. And thankfully, the new clip shows they’re not shying away from the character’s inherent campiness – it’s actually one of the best things about the Masters of the Universe movie, and Leto seems perfect for it now.

Masters of the Universe opens in theaters on June 5, 2026.
