The revived Stargate series is no longer moving forward at Amazon, after weeks of pre-production.
I was really excited when I first heard about this show – it was announced way back in November 2025 and was being made by someone who worked on Stargate, which I loved! Sadly, it’s been cancelled now, which is a huge disappointment.
According to Variety, Amazon executives worried the new series wouldn’t attract viewers beyond its current fans. TopMob has reached out to Amazon for a statement.
Joseph Mallozzi, a consulting producer on the show, has confirmed the news and expressed his sadness, saying he is “heartbroken.”
Unfortunately, the new Stargate series won’t be happening. That’s according to a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
I don’t have much to add beyond confirming the events that have unfolded. However, I want to share that creator Martin Gero spent over two years developing a new Stargate series. The result is a show designed to be both accessible to new fans and respectful of the established Stargate universe.

Many recent remakes and reboots stumble by losing what made the original so good. This new Stargate series, however, succeeded by staying true to the heart of what fans loved – exciting action, thrilling adventures, a sense of discovery, heartwarming moments, fun humor, and the strong bonds between characters. That promising vision led to the series being approved in November 2025, but unfortunately, that original creative direction has now been abandoned.
He expressed deep sadness, saying they won’t be able to share that world and its characters with viewers, or revisit beloved characters from previous seasons. He was especially heartbroken for the dedicated writers who poured their hearts into making the show.
This is for Martin, who remained optimistic even when things were difficult, and always wanted to create a show that would please existing fans while attracting new ones. It’s also for the dedicated Stargate fans who waited patiently for a continuation they would have truly enjoyed.
Brad Wright, who was going to be a consultant on the project, expressed his disappointment that the work Martin and his team were doing wouldn’t be seen by the public, adding that he would have liked to see it himself.
Despite the show’s cancellation, there’s still a chance for more Stargate in the future. Variety reports that Amazon is looking for new ways to continue the franchise, and writer Mark Gero remains under contract with Amazon MGM Studios.
The Stargate story began with a movie in 1994, and it’s grown into many different TV shows and films since then.
Fans of TopMob recently voted Stargate SG-1 as one of the greatest sci-fi shows ever made, ranking it ninth on their all-time list.
