Scott Pelley is sharing his perspective.
Soon after being let go from CBS News after many years with 60 Minutes, the correspondent again shared his concerns about the changes happening at the news program. These changes began after David Ellison’s company, Skydance, bought Paramount (CBS’s parent company) and appointed Bari Weiss as editor-in-chief in October.
According to a statement from Pelley on June 3rd, the network’s new owner is dismissing a well-known figure, seemingly in an attempt to gain approval from the Trump administration.
Scott Pelley criticized the changes CBS News editor-in-chief Weiss and the new executive producer of 60 Minutes, Nick Bilton, are making to the show. He had previously voiced these concerns during a staff meeting on June 2nd.
As a longtime viewer of 60 Minutes, it truly pains me to hear Scott Pelley describe the current situation. He pointed out everything the show has achieved over almost six decades, and then, talking about how things are now under the new leadership, he simply said, “The waste is heartbreaking.” It really feels like so much of what made 60 Minutes special is being lost, and it’s just incredibly sad to witness.
Last month, the news program 60 Minutes experienced a significant loss when its entire senior leadership team and two of its top reporters, Cecilia Vega and Sharyn Alfonsi, were unexpectedly let go. According to Pelley, these individuals were dismissed for advocating for the audience, upholding fairness in the face of political pressure, and maintaining professional standards amidst internal disruption.
Pelley claimed that Weiss’s team tried to make him add false or biased information to stories about politics.
He explained that he’d been asked to include claims that hadn’t been checked for accuracy. So far, he’d always been able to avoid doing so. Recently, there’s been a change where politicians are now being allowed to select which reporters will conduct interviews for the show. He believes letting politicians control who interviews them on 60 Minutes is a departure from standard practice.

Beyond the ethical concerns, the journalist also claimed that CBS News’s new leaders have consistently demonstrated a lack of skill and professionalism.
Even though Pelley claims the team at 60 Minutes has worked incredibly hard to maintain the show’s standards, he acknowledged that its current leadership is vastly different from what it once was.
Despite previously accusing CBS executive Keith Weiss of ruining 60 Minutes during a private discussion, the veteran news anchor expressed how proud he was to work on what he saw as a truly iconic American program.
After 37 incredible years at CBS, all I feel is immense gratitude for the dedicated journalists of CBS News. They constantly supported and improved my work, often putting themselves in harm’s way to do so. I truly hope we see a time when their bravery and commitment to the truth are celebrated again, and when good judgment, skill, and courage are valued once more.
For Bilton’s part, he addressed Pelley’s firing in a memo to 60 Minutes staff June 3.
In a letter published by CBS News, Bilton explained that he knew Scott was loved by many and that he didn’t make his next statements easily. He said he tried multiple times over the weekend to speak with Scott directly, and again this afternoon, hoping to reach a compromise. However, Scott didn’t respond to those efforts.
During the June 2nd meeting with Pelley, Bilton also explained Weiss’s plans and motivations for the future of 60 Minutes.
“Bari loves this institution,” he said, per The New York Times. “She loves 60 Minutes.”
The disagreement between Pelley, Weiss, and Bilson’s influence over 60 Minutes isn’t the first instance of conflict in the entertainment world. If you’re interested in more famous rivalries, continue reading.

In January 2024, Bobby addressed speculation about a disagreement with Tan, following his announcement in November 2023 that he was leaving Queer Eye after eight seasons. (Bobby is pictured second from left.)
He assured Vanity Fair that he and Tan are doing okay. He explained they went through a personal issue, but it’s separate from their work on the show and wasn’t related to romance. He emphasized it was a private matter that had been building up between them.
In March 2024, Tan addressed claims that he tried to get his friend Jeremiah Brent to replace Bobby on the show Queer Eye.
Netflix and the production team held extensive auditions. I didn’t recommend my friend for the role, but they ultimately landed it because they were the most qualified. I also want to clarify that I didn’t help them get the job by having another candidate removed from consideration, as he explained in an Instagram post.

During a September 2023 game of “Stir the Pot” with her daughter, Kelly Osbourne, on TopMob News, Sharon Osbourne revealed that she considered Danny Masterson, known from “That ’70s Show,” to be the rudest celebrity she’d ever encountered. She described him as a consistently rude and unpleasant person.
He did not respond to her remarks publicly.
Five years ago, Sharon shared with Larry King that Ashton seemed annoyed when he was a guest on The Talk in 2014, after she mispronounced his name.
She remembered him asking, ‘Who are you and what have you accomplished in this business?’ She said she responded with a fierce warning, telling him, ‘Don’t underestimate me, because I will completely destroy you.’ She finished by saying, ‘You have no idea who you’re talking to.’

In August 2022, Cassadee Pope and Maren Morris clashed with Brittany Aldean, the wife of country singer Jason Aldean, after Brittany posted a video on Instagram. In the video, she thanked her parents for not allowing her to transition genders during a phase where she preferred traditionally masculine interests, stating she enjoyed her current feminine lifestyle.

In a 2022 TikTok trend, JoJo Siwa called Candace Cameron Bure the “rudest” celebrity she’d met, explaining that Bure once turned down her request for a photo on the red carpet. Soon after, Cameron Bure apologized, saying she regretted hurting Siwa’s feelings when she was younger and expressing her sincere regret for not taking the picture.
Candace and the other person resolved their differences. However, when asked months later if her network, Great American Family, would ever feature same-sex couples as the main characters in its holiday films, she said it wouldn’t, explaining that the network intends to focus on stories centered around traditional marriage.
JoJo, who publicly shared they are part of the LGBTQ+ community in 2021, responded to the actress’ comment on Instagram, calling it “rude and hurtful to an entire community.”

In June 2021, Courtney Love claimed that Olivia Rodrigo had copied the album cover art of her band, Hole, for a promotional photo without giving credit. Olivia responded with a supportive message, saying, “Love u and live through this sooooo much.” Courtney then playfully replied, “Olivia – you’re welcome. My favorite florist is in Notting Hill, London! DM me for details! I look forward to reading your note [winking face emoji].”

While on Watch What Happens Live, the Happy Days actor explained the reason he and the Forrest Gump star didn’t get along while filming the 1989 movie Turner & Hooch.
I directed the movie for thirteen days, and then Jeff Katzenberg, the producer, told me to go home – that I had everything I needed, he said.
Winkler and Hanks’ dog seemed to get along very well. “I really loved that dog,” Winkler said.
He also refused to admit if he’s even seen the flick.

“You know what you did!”
Anyone who watched The Hills probably remembers that famous line from Lauren, spoken at the start of season three. The drama between her and Heidi began when Heidi started dating Spencer Pratt. It really exploded, though, when Lauren claimed Heidi and Spencer spread a false rumor that she’d made a sex tape with her boyfriend at the time, Jason Wahler.

Tyrese and Dwayne Johnson had a public falling out in 2017, starting with an Instagram post from Tyrese after the release date for Fast & Furious 9 was moved to April 2020. On the same day, a spin-off movie featuring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham was announced, scheduled for 2019. The next month, Tyrese said he would leave Fast 9 if Dwayne Johnson was still involved.
Tyrese recently discussed the conflict with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, telling Van Lathan on The Red Pill podcast that they still haven’t spoken directly, though he expects they will. He did mention having a conversation with one of Johnson’s producing partners, but not with Johnson himself.
Tyrese admitted he shouldn’t have publicly shared frustrations he’d heard from others connected to the franchise, saying he took responsibility for speaking out when he shouldn’t have. He described it as unprofessional and a mistake.

No more bad blood here.
Taylor Swift and Katy Perry had a long-running public disagreement, rumored to be the inspiration behind Taylor’s song “Bad Blood.” The conflict, which supposedly began over a disagreement about a dancer and competition during their concert tours, was resolved when Katy sent Taylor a peace offering – an actual olive branch – just before Taylor’s Reputation Tour began.
You won’t believe what happened! I walked into my dressing room and there was a real olive branch waiting for me. It honestly meant the world – such a beautiful and thoughtful gesture.
Taylor captioned the video, “Thank you Katy.”

For years, Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker, stars of Sex and the City, successfully dismissed rumors of a disagreement. However, those rumors resurfaced when Kim chose not to participate in a third movie and later made comments about her co-star that many found surprising.
During a September 2017 appearance on Watch What Happens Live, Andy Cohen asked Sarah Jessica Parker how she felt about Kim Cattrall telling Piers Morgan they had only ever been colleagues, not friends.
She was deeply upset, saying she felt heartbroken about something. They had discussed it the previous week, and she explained that her memory of the experience was very different from how it was being presented. She found the situation really disturbing because it didn’t match her recollection of events.
It’s definitely sad, but I believe what truly connects us is the shared experience we all had. It started as a job, but over the years, it became something personal because it took up so much of our lives. I’m hoping that the positive impact of those years, and the special connection people felt, will outweigh any recent disagreements. It was a real privilege to be a part of something so meaningful.
And though they didn’t film scenes together, Kim did make a small appearance on And Just Like That.

Elton John and Madonna have been publicly disagreeing since 2004. The conflict began when Elton, while accepting an award at the Q Awards that year, criticized Madonna’s live performances. He famously said, “Madonna, best live act? That’s ridiculous!” and questioned her use of lip-syncing, suggesting anyone who lip-syncs during a paid concert shouldn’t be allowed to perform. He used strong language to express his disapproval.

The actress, formerly known for her role on Grey’s Anatomy, caused a disagreement with the show’s creator back in 2008 when she asked to be removed from Emmy Award consideration. She explained her decision by saying she didn’t believe the storylines she was given were strong enough to deserve a nomination.
Shonda Rhimes discussed Katherine Heigl’s departure in a 2012 interview with Oprah Winfrey on Oprah’s Next Chapter. She admitted it was both hurtful and expected. “When someone shows you their true colors, you should pay attention,” Rhimes explained. “I’ve really taken that to heart, and it’s been a valuable lesson for me.”

The fight between Nicki and Cardi at the Harper’s Bazaar Icon party during New York Fashion Week made headlines everywhere. A month later, Cardi explained what started the argument with Nicki.
Cardi B recently told W magazine that another person has been repeatedly criticizing her. They had talked twice before and seemed to resolve things, but the criticism continued.
The conflict really escalated when Cardi B noticed Nicki Minaj had seemingly liked, and then unliked, a tweet criticizing Cardi’s skills as a mother. Nicki has said she didn’t actually interact with the tweet.
Cardi B explained she turned down a potentially hugely profitable Bruno Mars tour because she wanted to be with her daughter. She strongly defended her dedication to motherhood, saying she’s a great mom, and pushed back against criticism from those who don’t understand. She added that opportunities to collaborate with other artists don’t come along every day, and she wasn’t going to miss this one waiting for another chance encounter.

The conflict between Kanye West and Taylor Swift began in 2009 when Kanye interrupted her acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards. They later reconciled and became friends, but their relationship fell apart in 2016 after Kanye released his song “Famous,” which mentioned Taylor by name.
Just before the Grammys in February 2025, Kanye West began following Taylor Swift on Instagram, and that was all – he didn’t offer any explanation. Taylor didn’t publicly acknowledge the follow.

“I don’t know her.”
The rumored rivalry between Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez began in 2003 during a German television interview. When asked about Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey famously stated, “I don’t know her.”
