Lots of streaming services are now creating original animated shows, and many are also focusing on adult animation. Hulu has successfully revived popular series like Futurama and King of the Hill. Now, Netflix is expanding its animated offerings by bringing over a show that originally appeared on HBO Max, and the original creative team is involved. If you enjoyed the 2025 animated series Common Side Effects, you’ll likely be interested in the new series Netflix has ordered.
According to Variety, the creators of the animated series Common Side Effects are developing a new comedy for Netflix called Dealies. Joe Bennett and Ted Tavelstead are the show’s creators, with Bennett previously co-creating last year’s popular HBO Max animated hit. Netflix describes the upcoming adult animated series – for which a release date hasn’t been announced – as follows: Dealies centers around the staff of a big box store, including a brilliant salesman, a kind gladiator, a quiet expert, and a person who can summon gods, as well as the unfortunate person who hired them. They’re experts at sales, understand business, and sometimes actually get work done.

The Side Effects of Adult Swim

Many people know Green Street Pictures for Common Side Effects, but they also created Scavengers Reign, a popular animated series that was sadly cancelled after one season. Despite this, Green Street has proven its storytelling ability and will be continuing with a second season of Common Side Effects, as well as a new project called Dealies. Interestingly, Scavengers Reign first appeared on HBO Max before also being available on Netflix, but even that wider reach wasn’t enough to save it from cancellation.
Even though many people now watch animated shows through streaming services, Adult Swim on Cartoon Network remains popular. Last month, the hit show Rick and Morty returned for its ninth season, and this summer will bring a new spin-off called President Curtis. While there isn’t a dedicated Adult Swim channel, the programming block has grown significantly on Cartoon Network, expanding from late-night programming to include late afternoons. With Toonami also part of the schedule, Adult Swim continues to be a key player in cable television, even decades after it first began.
