Dax Shepard swears his home is the good place.
The podcast presenter disclosed that for over a decade, he and his spouse, Kristen Bell, have a policy where their daughters, Lincoln (age 12) and Delta (age 10), are permitted to use swear words – but only within the confines of their home’s privacy.
In my approach as a lifestyle advisor, I openly acknowledge using strong language in front of my children. While I don’t encourage them to do so casually, I believe there are instances where it’s appropriate for them to express themselves in this manner, provided it’s warranted and done within the confines of our home, rather than in public places like restaurants.
In a move tailored for him at age 50, he opted to transfer greater control of their linguistic heritage to his kids.
Dax explained, ‘I simply informed the girls that those sounds produced from their mouths, they themselves can interpret their meanings.’
Still, the Parenthood alum understood that some parents might disagree with the couple’s rule.
Truly, I was over the moon when Seth Meyers graced his presence on my favorite podcast. What made it even more exhilarating was learning that he and his remarkable wife, Alexi Ashe, are just as dedicated as I am to ensuring their little ones – Ashe, 9, Axel, 7, and Adelaide, 3 – keep their language pristine, regardless of the setting.
As he put it, “For us, it’s the fear that they’re gonna take it to school.”
But Seth also noted that raising boys might play a role in how he feels about the subject.
The Late Night with Seth Meyers host emphasized the importance of not undervaluing boys and girls. He confidently asserted that he would have full faith in his daughter if he instructed her, “Here’s a word I want you to remember; please don’t use it at school.
Well, I can’t help but chuckle at Seth’s jest about his boys possibly breaking their word, and Dax’s quick-witted response echoes my thoughts exactly – they’ll surely blurt out their promises the instant they hear them!
Regarding Kristen, in matters concerning profanity, she often mirrors her husband’s stance. During a 2020 interview on Strahan, Sara & Keke, she humorously mentioned that when Lincoln and Delta use such words, she and Dax typically remain unfazed.
She added, “And we’re not very good at editing ourselves really.”

In 2007, at a friend’s birthday bash, I crossed paths with this radiant being, Kristen, that left me utterly bewitched. Two weeks later, serendipity brought us together again, this time at a hockey match. We took the universe’s hint and dared to embark on a romantic adventure.
In the beginning, this pair had their share of doubts alongside the typical excitement. Dax, with his previous playboy lifestyle, wasn’t missed by Kristen, who compared them to the couple in Paula Abdul’s music video “Opposites Attract”.
Back in the tail end of 2009, I found myself engaged, quite fittingly, while working alongside my partner on the set of “When In Rome.” The enchanting allure of the Italian city proved too powerful to resist, mirroring the romantic magic we portrayed in our film. To put it simply, just as our characters were ensnared by love spells, so too did real-life romance cast its spell upon us.
During a 2010 interview discussing her relationship with Dax, Kristen expressed, “A gathering focused on cuddling has the power to heal any issue – this is not an exaggeration.
In 2013, the couple exchanged vows in a modest ceremony held at a courthouse in Beverly Hills, following their announcement of their upcoming marriage on Twitter earlier that year. By opting for a low-key wedding instead of a grand one, they added an extra touch of romance to their love story, delighting their fans.
In March 2013, Bell welcomed their first child, a girl named Lincoln. Being deeply concerned about her daughter’s privacy, Kristen humorously stated, “I can’t wait to see what happens to the first person who attempts to take a photograph of Lincoln.
In December 2014 the couple had their second daughter, Delta.
Back in May 2015, I openly discussed with Good Housekeeping that my spouse and I occasionally seek the help of couples therapy when we encounter challenges. I believe it’s important to express that seeking therapy should never be a source of embarrassment.
In 2016, Kristen Bell made her debut on Instagram by posting a heartwarming picture – a close-up shot of her and her spouse locked in a loving embrace.
The two looked just as in love as ever at the premiere of Dax’s new movie Chips in March 2017.

They two celebrated the 2017 Fourth of July holiday in style.
The duo consistently demonstrates they’re no different from any other pair. They candidly disclose attending couple’s therapy sessions and occasional disagreements, yet their unwavering respect for one another remains a constant. On Instagram, Kristen offered relationship advice, stating, “To love someone in spite of their flaws, shortcomings, or personality quirks, is the most potent form of love. Celebrate what brings them joy and grant them personal pursuits.
A duo who aren’t shy about their silliness tends to remain close, as evidenced by the humorous posts they regularly share on social media platforms. For instance, they once donned costumes for a Peaky Blinders-themed birthday bash and truly excelled in their roles.
