I’m excited to hear the Green Game Jam is happening again! This year, a whopping 70 game developers are joining forces to create some awesome games, and it’s all for a really great cause. It’s cool to see the gaming community coming together like this.
Let us explain the Green Game Jam if you haven’t heard of it. It’s a yearly event hosted by the non-profit Playing for the Planet, and it begins on World Environment Day – which is today, June 5th!
With the UK experiencing increasingly concerning weather patterns, it’s encouraging to see so many gaming companies joining forces to address the climate crisis.
So, I heard a bunch of game companies are doing something cool! They’re all participating in this ‘Green Game Jam,’ and apparently, over the next few weeks, they’re adding special, environmentally-themed stuff into their games. I’m excited to check it out and see what they come up with!
All 70 of the games will feature content inspired by coral reefs and rainforests, including things like new outfits and special in-game events. It could range from small additions like new items to bigger, more involved experiences.
So, these games are everywhere – on PCs, consoles, and even phones! Apparently, Playing for the Planet figures this whole initiative will reach a whopping 63 million players every single day. That’s a lot of us!
According to the official announcement, this year’s event aims to both highlight the importance of coral reefs and rainforests, and collect money to help protect them.
This year, we’re supporting the Rainforest Alliance and Oceana. You can find out more about their important work on their websites.

The Rainforest Alliance will use the money raised from this event to fund their Forest Allies project. This project helps local communities protect forests, repair damaged areas, and manage tropical forests sustainably in countries like Guatemala, Colombia, Peru, Cameroon, and Indonesia.
Oceana will use the money raised at this event to help protect coral reefs in the Gulf of Mexico, safeguard deep-sea corals in Europe, and advocate for changes to Belize’s constitution to better protect marine life.
