Ahsoka Tano first appeared in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie, meaning she wasn’t part of the original prequel trilogy, even though that period was significant for her character, particularly in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. Despite this, her absence from the prequels hasn’t diminished her importance in the broader Star Wars story across films and television.
Ahsoka Tano has become increasingly significant in the Star Wars universe thanks to her recurring roles in shows like Star Wars Rebels, The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka. Notably, The Mandalorian & Grogu has hinted at a major future storyline for her, promising a reunion with a character after 19 years and tying back to her original on-screen debut.
Rotta And Ahsoka Have A Significant History

Viewers unfamiliar with Star Wars television might have been surprised to see Rotta the Hutt in The Mandalorian, but this wasn’t his first appearance. He originally appeared in The Clone Wars movie, alongside Ahsoka Tano. In that film, Rotta was a baby Hutt who had been kidnapped. Jabba, surprisingly concerned, was so determined to get his son back that he hired the Jedi to rescue him.
This mission marked the first time Anakin and Ahsoka worked together as master and apprentice. They successfully rescued the baby, with Ahsoka carrying him several times and ultimately returning him to his father. Although it seemed like Ahsoka and Rotta would never meet again, a recent Star Wars film hints that might not be true.
The Mandalorian And Grogu Revealed Where Rotta Will Go Next

In the finale of The Mandalorian and Grogu, Rotta unexpectedly chose to side with the New Republic and continue fighting the remnants of the Empire. This is surprising because Jabba the Hutt’s son will now be working alongside many of the Rebellion’s leaders – and a meeting with Leia Organa, in particular, would be fascinating to see.
Now that we know where Rotta is, Star Wars fans can anticipate a potential return for the character in future movies or shows. While his appearance isn’t guaranteed, The Mandalorian and Grogu definitely suggest it’s a possibility.
Rotta could reappear in a future Mandalorian and Grogu movie or a potential fourth season of The Mandalorian, though neither of these is currently planned. However, there’s a new Star Wars project in the works that could bring Rotta back, and it would involve a significant reunion with familiar characters.
Will Rotta Be In Ahsoka Season 2?

Considering the events of both Ahsoka and The Mandalorian & Grogu, particularly how Rotta’s story concluded in the latter, it’s becoming likely that Rotta will appear in season 2 of Ahsoka. We know Rotta is working with Zeb Orrelios, and fans have been expecting Zeb to return in the new season, reuniting him with his former Ghost crewmates. If that happens, it’s very possible Ahsoka and Rotta could meet again, for the first time since their time together in The Clone Wars.
It would be really funny to see Ahsoka react to Rotta, the Huttlet she saved during the Clone Wars, now grown into a large, powerful Hutt. For this to happen, both within the story and behind the scenes, a few things need to fall into place. Primarily, the story would need to allow Ahsoka to leave Peridea – where she’s currently stranded – and travel to the same part of the galaxy as Rotta.
While it’d be fantastic to see Zeb and Rotta team up to rescue Ahsoka, it’s probably more likely that Ahsoka and Sabine Wren will escape the planet on their own. A big question is whether Disney would be willing to invest in bringing Rotta to life for the show. Whether this will actually happen is still uncertain, but a reunion between Ahsoka and Rotta in Ahsoka season 2 would be incredible.
