Well, there we have it, the night has passed, and it’s a new dawn in EastEnders.
The BBC One soap opera concluded its special week, ‘The Night That Changes Everything,’ with significant developments for several main characters.
Denise Fox recently learned she has cancer. Meanwhile, Ian Beale is in trouble with the law after drinking too much, and Chelsea Fox is worried about what this means for her son. Max Branning proposed, but he’s hiding something. And George Knight witnessed the death of his abusive father.
10 EastEnders questions we have after The Night That Changed Everything for the rest of 2026
1. Will Denise Fox survive blood cancer?

This is a particularly concerning development. After learning that Denise Fox has been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, a type of blood cancer, we’ve been very worried about her.
Diane Parish delivered a flawless performance this week as her character, Denise, received a difficult diagnosis on the show. This emotional storyline comes twenty years after Parish first joined the cast.
The show didn’t avoid addressing the serious challenges Denise faces, and it even presented some sobering statistics about her condition, specifically highlighting the obstacles Black women encounter.

Yolande Trueman (played by the fantastic Angela Wynter) helped lift Denise’s spirits, reminding her that she’s overcome difficult situations before, including abusive relationships with people like Owen Turner and even dangerous encounters with Lucas Johnson.
Denise received comforting support from Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) after sharing her difficult experiences with him.
I have to admit, the ending really got to me. It showed Denise taking a morning walk and witnessing Eddie Knight – played by Christopher Fairbank – being taken away in an ambulance after losing his battle with cancer. Seeing her reaction was heartbreaking, and the filmmakers brilliantly used the sound of a ticking clock during the final scenes to really drive home the sense of loss and finality. It was a powerfully somber moment.
We currently know Denise will live at least until New Year’s Day 2027 and is able to get around on her own. However, whether she will ultimately overcome her difficult situation is still unknown.
2. How does Ian Beale avoid jail time – or does he?

After being arrested for drunk driving and causing injuries to Jordan Fox, Ian Beale’s future is now unclear.
Given the severity of Jordan’s injuries and the Fox-Trueman family’s anger, Ian is likely to face consequences for his actions, especially since he was driving under the influence. It’s almost certain his political career is over.
Despite rumors, Ian Beale is still living in Walford as of New Year’s Day 2027, and he’s even Max Branning’s best man – proving he’s not in prison.
Or has Ian already served a short sentence?
We’ll have to wait and see what lies ahead for the Walford veteran.
3. What next for Chelsea Fox and son Jordan?

Chelsea is devastated by the danger Jordan faced. Although Ian is responsible, Chelsea will likely blame herself for being unkind to Jordan right before he ran into the path of Ian’s car.
Jordan is still recovering and will likely face long-term health challenges, as will his mother.
Chelsea is unaware of the difficulties her mother, Denise, is going through, meaning she’ll likely encounter even more challenges in the future.
Jordan’s father, Gray Atkins – who was revealed to be a serial killer – is also coming back for a short appearance in the show.
Could Jordan’s health issues trigger Gray’s return to Chelsea’s life?
4. Is Max Branning’s 2027 bride really Cindy Beale?

Ever since the flash forward revealed a wedding, fans have been wondering: who will Max Branning marry on New Year’s Day in 2027?
It appears Max’s current and soon-to-be wife, Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins), is the most likely answer. Even though Max’s proposal was awkward and Cindy first said no, they finished the week engaged.
It seems Max secretly had an affair with Priya Nandra-Hart (Sophie Khan Levy) while he was with Cindy, and this is likely to cause problems in the future.
Will Cindy and Max reconcile before 2027, or will Cindy continue the engagement while secretly planning revenge if she discovers what happened? Alternatively, will she remain unaware until 2027?

This week, it was clear that Max still has a connection with Linda Carter (played by Kellie Bright), and he even walked her home. She seems like the most stable match for him, and it’s obvious she still has feelings for him.
Considering everything Denise and Jack will be going through in the coming months, it seems unlikely Denise will end up marrying Max.
Although Chelsea Fox wasn’t involved in Max’s storyline this week, some viewers speculated she might be the one getting married.

- The shot above also features a clock reading ‘1’ and ‘1’ aka 01/01 aka 1 January! Yes, we have our tin foil hats on!
- Is the actual reason Oscar Branning (Pierre Counihan-Moullier) – who barely featured this week outside of the promo imagery – is called a “Trueman” by Patrick Trueman (Rudolph Walker) in the flash forward episode because Chelsea – Patrick’s surrogate granddaughter – is set to become Oscar’s stepmother and not because of Oscar’s love triangle with Patrick’s biological grandchildren, Jasmine Fisher (Indeyarna Donaldson-Holness) and Josh Goodwin (Joshua Vaughn)?
- On the 2027 wedding day, Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) asks Ian if a woman has moved on from “everything” that went down with Ian and Max in 2026, which Ian claims to have done himself. This could be to do with Cindy, but could it be connected to Ian’s story with Chelsea and Jordan instead? Ian serving as best man at Max and Chelsea’s wedding after what happened this week would be surprising!
5. Is Priya Nandra-Hart set to be the pregnant woman in Max Branning’s bed in 2027?

Given the timeline, it seems likely that Priya Nandra-Hart (Sophie Khan Levy) is the woman who is visibly pregnant and sharing a bed with Max Branning in 2027, as this is seven months after their apparent one-night stand.
Although Max might be the father of Priya’s baby, Priya also had a brief relationship with Ravi Gulati earlier that day, which means he could also be the father.
When 2027 rolls around, will Max and Priya simply be sharing a bed while Priya is pregnant with Ravi’s third child? Or is there a chance the baby is actually Max’s? Alternatively, is Priya leading Max to believe he’s the father?

Even though Wednesday’s episode ended with a lot of tension, Max and Priya never actually kissed. Instead, we saw them getting ready, and Priya took a selfie on Thursday hoping to make Ravi jealous. It makes you wonder if Max is changing and decided not to pursue an affair with Priya.
Of course, Priya could be a total red herring in this storyline.
6. Do Max Branning’s actions this week point to the mystery gunman?

Even if Max and Priya didn’t actually do anything wrong, just the suggestion that they did could cause problems on New Year’s Day 2027.
As mentioned, this could trigger a revenge plot from the often “irrational” Cindy Beale.
This week, a sweet moment occurred when Ian affectionately called Cindy his “maniac.” This has led to speculation: are they secretly planning something against Max for 2027? Or will Ian and Cindy deal with their own personal issues before the year is out?
Threatening Max’s children feels like a deeply personal attack, intended to hurt him. Considering Cindy has previously held Max responsible for her son Steven’s death, is she behind this threat to his children’s lives?

Could this explain why Cindy appears in the promotional photo with Max and his kids, while Oscar isn’t involved in the storyline this week?
Ravi isn’t currently involved in the main drama, but he might reappear motivated by revenge. He could be angry at Max for either getting Priya pregnant or for meddling with Priya’s pregnancy with Ravi’s child.
Max remains suspicious of Mark Fowler (Stephen Aaron-Sipple) and his involvement with Lauren, suggesting that criminal activity might still be a factor in what’s happening.
7. Is Lauren Beale going to give in to temptation with Mark Fowler?

As a long-time EastEnders viewer, I’ve noticed a lot of cheating going on in Walford recently, but Lauren Beale’s situation feels different. Unlike some of the others, her connection with Mark Fowler seems to be about feelings, not just a physical affair – at least for now.
If this couple is indeed falling for each other, the show is building their romance very slowly – a pace that might have been welcome with some other storylines!
Okay, so I’m really enjoying the dynamic between Jossa and Aaron-Sipple – they just click. And honestly, the last couple of weeks have been great because we’ve gotten to see a more playful and fun side of Mark, which is a nice change of pace.
We know Mark is still connected to Lauren in 2027, though the nature of their relationship is unclear. Currently, Lauren is keeping secrets from her husband, Peter Beale, and Max disapproves of her actions.
Surprisingly, though, Max and Mark seem to be getting along now. They even exchanged a friendly wave to each other through a window on New Year’s Day.
Can Lauren really resist the Branning tendency for adultery?
8. What will be the consequences of how Eddie Knight died?

Ding dong, the wicked Eddie Knight is dead.
The man, a convicted racist and murderer, died of lung cancer after a final, tense encounter with his adopted son, George. George witnessed the man’s struggle to breathe but chose not to help him.
Eddie’s return to Walford is sure to cause problems, especially considering the deep emotional impact of his past. It remains to be seen if George will face consequences for his own choices.
After Eddie’s death next week, George will start boxing intensely, to the point where he risks his own safety.

Many fans know George suffered brain damage due to boxing and was diagnosed with CTE. This condition means that even minor head impacts could be life-threatening.
Next week, Mark will unintentionally strike George in the head, causing him to pass out. George’s friend, Phil Mitchell, will discover him, but George will stubbornly refuse medical attention when he regains consciousness. Will he be alright?
Eddie’s return also forced George to confront the damage done to his relationship with his daughter, Gina Knight (Francesca Henry). Gina finally understood how much she had been hurt by Eddie’s actions, and by her father’s failure to intervene.
9. What next for the Knight-Mitchell clan after Nicola Mitchell’s actions?

George will also have to decide if he can forgive Nicola Mitchell (Laura Doddington) for secretly accepting money to bring Eddie to Walford, knowing he was going to die.
Nicola also shared her secret pact with the devil with her son, Harry Knight (Elijah Holloway), which could cause new problems between him and his girlfriend, Gina. Gina and Harry already struggled this week while talking about the racism she’s experienced.
I’m really worried about Nicola. Not only is she dealing with all that stress, but she’s also been keeping a huge secret! She never told Harry and Gina that she once thought Penny Branning might be carrying Harry’s baby, not Vinny’s. I just have a bad feeling this is all going to blow up and destroy everything she’s worked for. Will her secrets finally ruin her family?
10. Will Alfie Moon’s food poisoning antics threaten the Moons’ being in the Queen Vic?

Did the food poisoning storyline this week seem like a lighthearted attempt to balance out the more serious and upsetting events happening elsewhere in the show?
Or, could Alfie Moon’s prawns come back to haunt the Moons in another way entirely?
Viewers may recall that the owners of the Queen Vic pub were deliberately kept a mystery on New Year’s Day in 2027, and they weren’t even present for Max’s wedding.
Is Alfie’s careless cooking causing problems for his family, potentially leading to him and his wife, Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace), losing the pub within the next year?
Either way, we hope the residents of Walford learn to stock up on their Pepto-Bismol…
