Over ten years after the launch of Guild Wars 2, ArenaNet has announced they’re developing Guild Wars 3. A trailer revealing the game describes it as a fresh take on the massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMO) genre. This is a significant promise, especially considering the popularity of games like World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy 14.
The trailer immediately highlighted the popular mount system from Guild Wars 2. It seems Guild Wars 3 will also emphasize collecting mounts, offering players a variety of unique creatures to ride. Beyond showing mounts and a character running up a mountain, the trailer didn’t reveal much about how the game will actually play.
It’s still unclear if ArenaNet will continue the Guild Wars approach of a one-time purchase instead of a monthly subscription. Guild Wars 2 has been successful with this model, especially because the game has received a lot of support and several expansions since its release.
Guild Wars 3 is currently in development for both PC and PlayStation 5. Although a specific release date hasn’t been announced, ArenaNet plans to begin beta testing the game in Fall 2027. Interested players can register for the beta on the official Guild Wars 3 website.
