The popular manga series Haikyu!! ended in 2020, and the anime adaptation is still catching up. A new film, Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle, came out in February 2024, and a sequel, Haikyu!! vs. The Little Giant, is planned for March 2025. Fans are eager for more information about the sequel, and many believe the upcoming Jump Festa event in December 2026 is the perfect time for an announcement. Jump Festa is a large annual anime and manga convention with over 100,000 attendees, focusing on series from Shueisha’s Shonen magazines like Weekly Shonen Jump. The event features new reveals, interactive displays, and exclusive merchandise. Haikyu!!, a hugely successful series from Weekly Shonen Jump, will have a panel on the second day of Jump Festa. So far, it’s confirmed that the voice actors will be present for a stage talk, and the anime’s official social media is promoting special merchandise, but no new announcements have been teased yet.
Even before the first trailer came out this year, it was announced that Haikyu!! vs. The Little Giant would be the last Haikyu!! movie. When the studio revealed plans for two final films in 2022, many fans were upset. However, the listing for the movie changed this year, removing the word “final,” which led to speculation about a possible Season 5 or another film. Right now, though, this is just hopeful thinking – we won’t know for sure until the studio makes an official announcement.
The new movie is still being made, and it will cover Karasuno’s challenging match against Kamomedai in the Spring High National Tournament quarterfinals. Kamomedai is an exceptionally skilled team, particularly known for their strong serves, blocking, and mental toughness – they’re a step above anything Karasuno has ever encountered. The team also features Kōrai Hoshiumi, their star player, who has recognized Hinata’s potential and declared him a rival.
Their rivalry comes from the fact that they’re both short volleyball players who earned starting positions on their teams and competed at Nationals. The story then jumps ahead several years after Hinata graduates high school, beginning the Final Arc. This concluding arc is widely considered one of the best endings ever published in Weekly Shonen Jump.
