New information has emerged regarding the death of actor James Handy.
On June 5th, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office announced that Michael Gledhill had been charged with the murder of the 81-year-old actor, who was stabbed to death outside his girlfriend’s home in Tarzana, California, on June 3rd.
Forty-four-year-old Gledhill was accused of murder and prosecutors allege he used a knife in the crime.
In a statement, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman expressed his sadness over Handy’s death, saying, “No one deserves to die like that – stabbed and left to die in a front yard.”
James Handy deserved to spend his retirement enjoying the fruits of his labor with the people he loved. As with any murder victim, his life had value, and the person who violently took it must be held responsible.
If found guilty of murder, Gledhill could be sentenced to anywhere from 26 years in prison to life. The prosecutor also stated that they had asked the court to set his bail at $2.02 million.
On June 3rd, Los Angeles police received a 911 call from someone who claimed to be “the son of man” and said they had killed “the man of sin,” according to a statement released by the LAPD as reported by the Los Angeles Times.
I was shocked to learn that when authorities arrived at the Tarzana home, they discovered Handy had been stabbed and was lying injured in the front yard. It’s a truly heartbreaking scene, and my thoughts are with everyone affected.
According to the L.A. Times, Gledhill reportedly stopped police and confessed to being the suspect they were searching for. He was living with his mother, who was in a relationship with the victim, Handy.
While Gledhill was arrested, Handy was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Miles Handy was a familiar face in both movies and television. He’s remembered for his roles in films like Top Gun: Maverick and Jumanji, but he also appeared in many popular TV shows over the years, including Beverly Hills, 90210, Melrose Place, ER, The West Wing, The Practice, Alias, and The Young and the Restless.
