As a big DC fan, I’m so excited about how the DCU is shaping up! We’ve already seen hints of villains like Lex Luthor and Brainiac making their way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it sounds like even more of Superman’s enemies could be joining soon. The DCU is still really new – right now we’ve only gotten Creature Commandos, season two of Peacemaker, and the first Superman movie. But with projects like Lanterns, Supergirl, and Man of Tomorrow on the way, lots more classic characters are coming. And I think we might have just gotten a sneak peek at who’s joining the universe next!
James Gunn, the head of the DC Universe, recently hinted at exciting developments through a conversation with a fan online. When asked if popular characters like General Zod, Doomsday, and Darkseid would appear in the new DCU, Gunn responded that two of them will be joining “not too long” from now. This has sparked a lot of speculation among fans eager to find out which characters will make their debut soon.
We Already Know Darkseid Is Joining The DCU Soon

Darkseid is a major villain in DC Comics, so it makes sense the company wants to feature him soon. Surprisingly, he won’t appear as the main villain in a Superman or Justice League movie. Instead, Darkseid will first appear in the upcoming animated series Mister Miracle. Because Mister Miracle is officially part of the main DC Universe timeline, anything that happens in the show will be considered official canon, just like the events in Man of Tomorrow.
Bringing Darkseid into the DC Universe is significant, as he’s a powerful villain who could challenge existing heroes. Because he was a central figure in the previous DC movie universe, it will likely take some time before the DCU features him prominently again. The storyline introduced in season 2 of Peacemaker might set the stage for Darkseid to play a bigger part, but that hinges on what role he ends up having in the upcoming Mister Miracle project.
So, What Other Superman Villain Is Joining The DCU?

Now that Darkseid is confirmed to be part of the DC Universe, that leaves one more major villain to be revealed. The possibilities include General Zod, Doomsday, Doctor Fate, Black Adam, or Ultraman and the Crime Syndicate. Here’s a look at how likely each of these characters are to appear, starting with the least probable and moving to the most.
Black Adam is the least likely character on this list to reappear in the new DC Universe. The recent Black Adam movie starring Dwayne Johnson wasn’t very successful, and the DCU is probably hesitant to repeat the mistakes of the previous DC Extended Universe. If Black Adam does return, it’s more likely he’ll be a villain in a future Shazam movie rather than one focused on Superman. It would be difficult to naturally fit him into a Superman storyline, and while there aren’t any Shazam projects currently planned, the fact that characters from Peacemaker appeared in Shazam! Fury of the Gods suggests they could change the story later to include him.
Doctor Fate likely won’t appear in the new DC Universe for the same reasons as other characters from Black Adam. Since the DCU seems to be moving away from that film, Fate probably won’t get his own projects. Unless he joins the Justice League in Man of Tomorrow, he’s expected to be absent from the DCU for quite some time.
Doomsday is a well-known character in the DC Extended Universe, appearing in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice before Black Adam. While his famous storyline, “The Death of Superman,” likely won’t be adapted into a film soon, Doomsday’s connection to Krypton means he could potentially appear in the Supergirl series. However, a brief cameo wouldn’t really do the character justice.
General Zod is a classic Superman villain, and with upcoming movies like Man of Tomorrow and Supergirl, there’s a good chance he could appear in one of them. While he’s already been a main villain in two Superman films, making a big role in Man of Tomorrow alongside Brainiac unlikely, Supergirl seems like a natural fit. The movie will feature flashbacks to Krypton, providing a perfect opportunity for Zod to make an appearance.
The most probable direction for the story seems to be introducing Ultraman and the Crime Syndicate. Ultraman already appeared in the first Superman movie, and the ending – where he’s pulled into a black hole – provides a logical way for him to end up in another universe. There, he could create the Crime Syndicate and potentially bring them into the main DC Universe. Since the first Superman film already laid the groundwork for this, it wouldn’t be shocking to see this team appear in Man of Tomorrow.
