A new, atmospheric Star Trek game is in development by Bloober Team, the Polish studio behind several acclaimed titles, and is scheduled to launch on the PlayStation 5 in 2027.
Star Trek: Shadow Frontier is an action-adventure game played from a third-person perspective, offering a mature story within the vast world of Star Trek.
When you play as Ro Laren, you’ll be stranded on a planet that’s been taken over by a mysterious, alien intelligence.
The press release says:
Like a classic Star Trek story, Ro is motivated by a strong sense of duty and a clear goal. However, her quest for answers comes with a devastating price. As she learns more, she finds herself trapped in a dangerous and confusing situation where her memories become unreliable and the planet itself seems determined to disconnect her from everything she knows.
The game’s description states that the planet has been turned into a weapon by an unknown force, and that every challenge will push your determination and abilities to their limits.
Luckily, you’ll get to use cool gadgets from Star Trek to help you along the way! You can scan and study objects with your Tricorder, and use your Phaser to solve problems and defend yourself from threats.
Okay, so everyone’s saying this new Star Trek is different. It’s not your typical space adventure – it’s going for a more grown-up, character-driven story, really digging into the psychology of the crew. It’s definitely a shift in tone, and honestly, I’m pretty excited about it.
Bloober Team has a lot on its plate right now, with projects like the Silent Hill 1 Remake keeping them busy. Thankfully, their recent games have been well-received. While I’m not a Star Trek fan, I’m definitely interested to see what they’re doing with their new project.
