Spyro: A Realm Beyond Trailer Resurrects Iconic Purple Dragon

For a while, fans hadn’t seen a new Spyro game since the original PlayStation trilogy was remade in 2018. Now, after a long wait, Spyro is returning with a brand new adventure called Spyro: A Realm Beyond.

Get ready for Spyro: A Realm Beyond, launching on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in spring 2027! PC Game Pass and Ultimate subscribers will have access to the game on day one. The game is being developed by Toys for Bob, the studio known for the Spyro remake trilogy and the popular Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time.

Spyro: A Realm Beyond Takes Off Relatively Soon

The trailer featured a lot of computer-generated imagery showcasing the game’s vibrant world, before introducing the main dragon and hinting at a looming danger. Gameplay footage was brief, appearing only at the very end and highlighting the ability to fly – a feature that was more restricted in previous, popular Spyro games. According to studio head Paul Yan, this new installment will offer players greater freedom with full flight, which the development team was eager to implement.

Yan explained that the team always wanted to combine the feeling of gliding and traditional flight into Spyro’s main abilities. This idea is the driving force behind Spyro: A Realm Beyond. As they explored this concept, it became clear that giving Spyro full dragon flight was the natural next step. Because Spyro is a small but powerful dragon, they experimented extensively to ensure he felt both agile and substantial while flying, balancing nimble movements with a strong sense of physical presence in the air.

In a recent interview, Yan shared exciting details about the upcoming game, A Realm Beyond. He confirmed it will be full of playful charm, feature Tom Kenny reprising his iconic role as Spyro’s voice, and is designed with flying as a central gameplay element. He also hinted at a new villain that will challenge Spyro emotionally. While specific details are still limited, fans can expect more information to be released in the coming months.

Although it wasn’t official, rumors started circulating that Toys for Bob was working on a new Spyro game. People investigating online – particularly on LinkedIn – found a lot of evidence suggesting the popular dragon was about to return.

The Spyro Reignited Trilogy successfully revived the series with a well-received remake, returning it to the style first created by Insomniac Games – the team behind Marvel’s Spider-Man – in the 1990s. After Insomniac moved on, the quality of Spyro games declined before the series shifted to Skylanders, which was a very different type of game. Now, A Realm Beyond appears to be a fresh take that captures the magic of the classic Spyro games.
